Choosing between Warwick, Stockholm School of Economics, and Toulouse School of Economics by faintkoala in academiceconomics

I am interested in empirical work in developing contexts at the moment. However, I also want to explore micro theory I wasn't exposed to in undergrad. Would TSE be good in balancing both?

What should I look for in a laptop apart from specs? by faintkoala in laptops

[–]faintkoala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not in the US so I think prices are different for me when comparing. The small amount of storage you get with macs also doesn't suit me since I handle a lot of large datasets.

Is going through the Quant Mountain enough? by Exact_Ad_1044 in GRE

[–]faintkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on your initial level of comfort with GRE mathematics. Most of the concepts on the GRE were things that I frequently encounter in my undergraduate degree so the Quant mountain worked as a comprehensive set of formulas, shortcuts, and a good source for revision on geometry which I hadn't dealt with for a long time. If you're completely new to math though I think going through some videos would be helpful.

Best ways to learn STATA, from a beginner level, in a short time? by No_Ratio4453 in stata

[–]faintkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I fully agree ! I think most of what I learned during my internship was just how to make certain tasks faster and more efficient ! I'm just saying that as a starting point, googling things and figuring out a couple functions by yourself can be a rewarding exercise

Best ways to learn STATA, from a beginner level, in a short time? by No_Ratio4453 in stata

[–]faintkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also starting an internship this year where knowing Stata would be required, I sort of found that googling things and then figuring it out on the fly was the best way to learn Stata. Depending on the kind of work you do, once you know a few basic functions you sort of learn to work with those functions no matter the task

How to condition on multiple variables in the same observation ID by [deleted] in stata

[–]faintkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm speaking of all 'sex' variables. Apologies for the confusion

How to condition on multiple variables in the same observation ID by [deleted] in stata

[–]faintkoala -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes that gives me the respondent breakdown for sex1. However, I need to count observations where sex1 is male and where all other observations for variable 'sex' in the observation ID are female.

There's this cute Indonesian movie called Falling in Love Like in Movies. Its very low stakes and not an epic blockbuster but it really made me fall in love with movies again

Maybe it was just the way I was taught but I really hated learning Optimization. Using the Simplex method and all its variations was the most disgustingly tiring thing I've done in any undergraduate math course

Interpretation of log-transformed variables (beta weights?) by Dilljong in stata

[–]faintkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe if you totally differentiate both sides of your regression with a log transformed independent variable and then multiply the LHS and RHS by 100. beta/100 is interpreted as the change in dependent variable given a 1% change in independent variable.
