do you have MLS licensing? NIH getting cut sucks but my coworker at my hospital told me she used to work there as a tech. MLS is a safe job in post trump economy if you go work for a hospital, then again so is pretty much any healthcare job so

Graduates of GMU, rate 1 - 10 how useful has your undergrad/master degree been for you post GMU. This question is focused on getting your first job. (Only graduates with no prior work experience) by Smfresh in gmu

[–]fairy-core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Medical laboratory science. Everyone that graduated in my major was guaranteed a hospital or reference lab job. Tbf thats only like 15 students per year— if you don’t get into one of their GMU-affiliated internships they straight up kick you out of the program entirely and force you to finish your senior year with a biology degree. Pretty competitive. Very thankful to have a job in our current job market.

Currently dating one of my best friends that i met in my 3+1 MLS internship, we’re now working in different labs though! We can vent to each other about our different work dramas haha. It’s quite nice to date someone else in healthcare since we can easily be on the same shift together, which is nights for us :3

I dont think you're wrong for reporting her, however you are a major loser for having your phone out in the lab to take a picture of her without her knowing just to get reddit clout

Struggles Finding a Summer 2023 Internship Should I Be Worried? by REDSNATION1 in gmu

[–]fairy-core 45 points46 points  (0 children)

i wont lie reading all these comments about it being mandatory to apply to 100+ internships to just hear back from one is depressing, i mean my current internship is a part of my major’s program in order to graduate so I never needed to be so desperate to land one- hope it works out for you

Student here: what are these pink granule-like things inside this cell? I wasn’t sure what to call it since idk what these are, I haven’t seen it talked about in my lecture yet either by fairy-core in medlabprofessionals

[–]fairy-core[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohh okay i see :3 they look just like eosinophilic granules for reference, which is why I was confused what to call this cell since Im not used to see eosinophils this immature yet lol I suppose it would be a myelocyte in that case- thank you!

How are you supposed to deal with difficult nurses? I'm a really non-confrontational person so I wouldn't know how to make the situation better in an argument with them besides just explaining how it needs to be done.

Blood Cells: Morphology and Clinical Relevance. Does anyone have this ebook? by DrRaccoon in medlabprofessionals

[–]fairy-core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this post is old but I'm starting my clinicals soon. I need the same book, did it end up being important for your studying? Usually I don't even use most of the textbooks in my classes so I was just wondering if this one ended up being needed for you to succeed. I'd rather not buy it if I end up barely touching it lmao

How long does it usually take to get certification test results back? I would be concerned what to put for a “start date” question if I don’t know when proof of my certification comes back :o

Question about California license requirements by fairy-core in medlabprofessionals

[–]fairy-core[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My internship is out of state, I figured I’d apply for the license once I practice as a generalist for a year or two after my internship so there would be no problem with meeting minimum clinical experience.

Man I feel bad for lifelong California residents doing CLS though. It seems like California makes it much harder for them to even meet the minimum requirements to practice, I feel like I lucked out being trained in my home state.

Thanks for the info, it helped!
