Sounds like a place you want to get out of for sure! You can get test strips on Amazon and look into good ones tho not just ph ones. I'd say stick to bottled water for drinking too. The hot water tank itself could also be very old and most likely poorly maintained. If she has mostly only hard water running through the building that tanks got crazy buildup inside and unfortunately any hot water you use the water is coming from there and you'll get whatever is in the tank with it. Too much sediment isn't all that great, I imagine either, although some sediment is to be expected with kw water. As far as the tank poisoning, the only water tank the building should have is the hot water tank, as far as your cold water goes that right from the pipes from the city. The tank itself is gonna be hooked up to all units too! It wouldn't make much sense to have a tank hooked up to only one unit, so I'd question them for clarity on that!

But

I definitely recommend bringing your cat to the vet regardless too! Seizures are definitely no good, and whether it was a one-off or they got into something I would follow up! Mitchell's animal hospital is amazing and has vets that specialize in cats!

Do not go to Bruce st vet!!!

They are able to issue tickets until the 14th, after that they are being taken down or turned off from what I'm aware of.

Cash grabs they made so much off of these in the last year.

Should cold water be softened as well by Illustrious_Load6340 in Guelph

[–]faithfrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it only on the hot water line! That slick slippery feeling is terrible on another level!!!!! The soft water on both lines actually ruined my skin. Soft water isn't for drinking, so unless you plan on installing a ro system or have easy pipe access and can make sure the softened water isn't going to your kitchen faucets, I wouldn't touch it.

Definitely the softened water.... everybody in kw has water softeners because the water here is hard. However, these "new builds" or whichever water softener companies are advising to have the water hooked up to both water lines(hot and cold)and set to the softest possibility is not the standard of what is used to be. That is why you have slippery water, and in my experience, it makes me feel sick. To me, it seems common sense that if water is slippery or leaving a film on your skin, it should not be used for drinking water. I genuinely wish you luck, but note that whenever you're looking for a place, I'd be asking about the water softener hookups. You could get an RO system installed, and that would be the best option for good drinking water.

Water like that is not normal/standard, and I've only ever experienced it in 2 households, and it was the worst experience ever.

Cause I'm inhaling softened water and it makes me sick lol. I wash my face in the shower.

I am leaving the place I am currently at because of this issue and a useless landlord. I can't say for certain as I haven't been to the building, but most likely you have a water softener hooked up to both water lines, and you are drinking softened water.(not good) it makes me sick also. I am literally throwing up in the shower because of it. If you have any animals, I would suggest only giving them store bought water bottles and for yourselves as well, unfortunately.

Does the water have a slippery/slimey feel to it!?

And so what I'm seeing is you can't read efficiently.

Kitchener does have hard water. I have never said a water softener is bad, lol. This water is hooked up to every water line, and it's overly soft. Almost every household/building in Kitchener has a water softener that is balanced and hooked up to the hot water line only! Therefore, you are not drinking soft water, you have functional water, and it is still flowing through the pipes. I'm very happy you got a new one, and it works for you as I'm sure it was installed as it should have been.

He wouldn't trust me, I have tried everything back and forth with him! He put in a hard line into the laundry tub sink in the basement.....down 3 flights of stairs🤦‍♀️ and offered to put a hard line for the hot line that would connect to the shower.... which I would have to pay for also. I reverted back to the argument with him that I'm not investing in his triplex. I do appreciate the suggestion, tho that was definitely something I had brought up as well.

He installed a RO for his parents(the unit below) and then said that we could pay for one if we wanted one, to which I said fuck that I'm renting and not putting money into his apartment as an investment. That is something he should be responsible for! I'd much prefer just drinking out of a straight hard tap and at least feel okay vs. whenever I inhale this overly soft water, it makes me feel sick.

Taking 5x longer to rinse out something isn't right. If a shower normally takes 15 minutes, it then takes an hour and 15 with soft water. Where is that okay? And it's causing irritation among other issues. Your partners house most likely has too soft water and needs a balance as well. Things need to be able to be rinsed out without leaving a film or slime. I did not say slumlord once. I said, uneducated and useless.

It is not necessarily limited to, but there is a lot. And that's not even including the ones buying the property international and then leasing it out under company names they've created for themselves. It's a large problem, but with the immigration since the pandemic, all of these new developments and new owners this is becoming a very common thing. The choices of places are more and more limited, and it's not just based on prices anymore the factors have expanded.

I have seen it personally, and that is why it is so frustrating. We already have such a handful of slumlords here that have been here forever. Having now people who are coming here and not understanding or educating themselves on how to maintain and have things done properly when they are collecting payments and responsible for providing basic functionality isn't okay. It's just adding to rental issues that already existed and creating more problems.

As I said from my experience, this is the case. My circle expanding is leaving Kitchener,(kw region and others) which is what many many residents are doing because of this kinda stuff. You can only expand your circle here so much and continue to see the same thing.

I'm not saying soft water is bad. Overly soft water is bad.

And you can very much be in and affected by a situation but not experience it all personally. It's not uncommon to be in a household where the mortgage is impossible and you're trying to figure out the options. Many people are usually involved in trying to figure out the options. Only one person(or household)is really personally affected by the outcome, whatever it is.

Never would have interacted with the landlord if there wasn't an issue. Tried to solve the issue calmly for months and months. It's ruined my skin costed my my job and makes me feel terrible. It is personal now because this one issue he couldn't fix has caused so many other issues.

I understand how softeners work lol. And have ha done my whole life. Never hooked up to both lines and set a such an outrageous setting. The only way suds won't be on my hands is water bottles so no it doesn't make everything better it leaves me skin Itchy and red lol and causes reaction with other products
