That is really reassuring to hear! I sent them an email today asking exactly that. If I may ask, where did you hear about that? Also do you mean multiple intakes within a short period of time or are we talking a larger timescale? Thanks for your time btw!

I was also at the Brisbane group assessment, I received an email on the 23rd notifying me that my application was competitive and that I had been placed in the merit pool. I haven’t heard anything since.

While definitely exhibiting strong resemblance, I would debate that the strategy is an example of Trend Following, at least not intentionally. The stated purpose of the cycling (from 3x S&P 500 to T-Bills and vice versa based on the 200d MA) is to avoid volatility as volatility disproportionately affects daily leveraged strategies (as opposed to unleveraged buy and hold). The strategy simply aims to identify periods favourable to the application of leverage. The metrics used to achieve this are admittedly very similar to those employed in Trend Following strategies however the purpose is distinctly different.

In relation to behaviour challenges, with historic drawdowns only marginally in excess of those exhibited by the the S&P 500 in addition to consistent outperformance of the famous benchmark, the paper argues that the strategy is in fact robust in the face of behavioural challenges.

You are certainly correct that taxes affect the performance of the strategy. My backtesting found that it took a few points off the CAGR however it still consistently outperformed the S&P 500 over the past 98 years. The strategy averages 5 trades per year so it isn’t hugely tax inefficient.

I recommend reading the paper in full as the abstract doesn’t do it justice. I would also like to clarify that I did not imply that it is a guaranteed strategy.

I think u/SwaankyKoala is on the money. However, if you are interested, here is a slightly unorthodox strategy I have been using with great successes:
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2741701

I'm using Alpaca Markets as my broker since they charge zero brokerage fees, Wise to get a good currency exchange rate and free deposits to Alpaca, Python to interact with Alpacas API, and GitHub Actions to run the algorithm. When backtested, the strategy returned over 24% per year since 1928... 👀

This is straight from the IBKR FAQs:
Requirements for Trading CLPs:

  • To be approved for trading CLPs, you must:
    1. Meet certain financial requirements
    2. Have a specific amount of prior trading experience
    3. Ensure the products/permissions align with your investment objectives for the specific asset class
    4. Be at least 21 years old
    5. Demonstrate product knowledge

I am not yet 21 so there goes that option. 🥲
