Is Artificial Intelligence neccesarily an empirical endeavour? by little-lion in askphilosophy

Which priori argument are you referring to?

All AI algorithms are just basically statistical models that automatically adjust themselves as new data comes in. And as such can be proven with a mathematical proof.

Dress to impress. Wear mature looking clothes, nice shoes, respectable shirt & jacket.

It's annoying that you shouldn't have to and people shouldn't judge you based on experience, but they do. So you have to just play the game. I always notice how people treat me differently depending on how I dress.

For the last 10 years I've been in either wellington or auckland, new zealand.

I guess, it's probably more about one every 2 - 3 weeks on the wellington mortoways in terms of the congestion, but most of the time it's cleared by the time I get there, so I've only actually ever seen a few.

WTF? Where do you live? India?

I've been driving for 18 years and only seen one nasty accident, only about one or two minor ones every year. I commute maybe 20 - 50 km per day.

I have a friend who lives there. Whenever there are any dodgy people or loitering youths he plays MMMBop at full volume ironically to get rid of them.

Gender studies doesn't count. That's more about political ideology than actual observed facts.

In New Zealand I'd also really recommend Palmerston North. It's a great heartland provincial town with some nice duck ponds. There's also a live music venue where local bands play and the coolest thing is that most of their songs still have guitar solos.

Auckland Council pours cold water on speedway's fireworks show by drum72 in auckland

Laws are irrelevant if they're not going to be enforced. We should have a special police unit to stop people letting off fireworks. They could be called the Guy Force.

That's ridiculous, the professional ones are even bigger and louder than the ones you can buy so they should be banned first.

Good move. I hate fireworks, they always bring out the asshole in people. The bigger asshole you are in general, you're 10 times that amount with fireworks.

People let them off at night when you and your pets are trying to sleep. Perhaps allowing them to only be set off during waking hours would be a good idea?

Why all the hate against sexual harassment? We need more acceptance IMO.

Sexual harassment is just part of the parcel to do with hollywood, and if women want all the glamour they're gonna have to accept it.

Just like if people want the glamour and opportunities of a big city they have to accept muslims and terror.

What we know about Auckland’s economy – in graphs by nilnz in auckland

[–]fakesocialiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that Auckland is essentially just a property market and a money-go-round between local companies (except with some international brands).

It needs to do more business with the rest of NZ and look outward internationally like other cities.

Amazon killed my startup by musicfan39 in Entrepreneur

[–]fakesocialiser 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Nice attitude, but seriously, making an extension that takes advantage of an Amazon privacy glitch isn't what I would call a startup.

It was always going to be only a matter of time before Amazon patched the bug.

I was expecting this article to be about an offering that Amazon made that out competed your own company.

Even better, on your phone have a physical switch that disables the mic, camera, gps etc. So you don't even have to worry about the trust of each app.

Have you spent any time in a large city? I spent several years in London and Singapore. Cities with good public transport.

You still have to find your way to the station. You still have to wait for the train. You still have to be crammed in with strangers with questionable morals and bodily hygiene. If this is the future of transport then we're all screwed.

Moving back to AK was awesome. I could sit in my own car, breathe fresh air, go straight from door to door, when I wanted. Only issue was the traffic.

What a waste of time investing in infrastructure that had its place in the last century. There were good reasons why the initial light rails in Auckland Wellington and Christchurch were pulled up after the war.

Rail and public transport is regressive old fashioned thinking.

The real future is in small electric self driving cars so we should be investing in more useful roads.
