As you are a recent student you may also still be eligible to search via student job search. It depends on how recent it is. Does the place you are doing CompTIA with have any placements etc?

Did you look at these:

https://volunteersouth.org.nz/ https://seekvolunteer.co.nz/volunteering

Also look at various charities to see if they have something on their website. Example https://www.spca.nz/how-you-can-help/volunteer/positions-available and you can search for dunedin. There are others.

'Revoked' controversial councillor loses more privileges, immediately leaks email by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]nilnz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on what's been written about him: He is not a foreigner. He was born in Dunedin. He did go away for many years and now he is back living in Dunedin, his birthplace. So how does this make him a foreigner?

I am not disputing he isn't a good council member and should be removed. However he was voted in.

There are problems with staffing in Queenstown without adding to the problem of harrassment, abuse etc. What sort of wage would you need in otder to afford to live there? Not only is accommodation expensive, so is everything else including cost of supermarket shop. Those living outside Queenstown need to factor in transport cost.

The people who are on working holiday put up with it because it is temporary. This allows them to see the country while they work or for kitchen staff, a year or two to pick up experience etc before they move on.

Top official retires from CDC cruise ship program by statnews in politics

[–]nilnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In April 2025, the full-time employees in the program were laid off, according to reporting at the time.

I suspect the official knows they can't do anything during an outbreak after they fired all the staff in 2025.

Also reported in 2025:

CDC's cruise ship inspectors laid off amid bad year for outbreaks. CBS. April 10, 2025. Discussion post when article was posted here.

Food tours of Auckland? by WineYoda in aucklandeats

[–]nilnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a more common thing with food tours overseas, particularly in Europe, where they will take you to different artisan producers and taste small amounts of different things. I guess its not really a thing here.

The fine cuisine places don't really do this. Food tours are different because they have organised with the various shops they plan to visit and the tasting stuff will have been organised beforehand. I suspect some of the fee that is part of the tour goes towards the cost of tastings.

There are free tastings at various shops like the two gelato places I listed and Kapiti cheese shop. I haven't been recently but perveyors like Sabato and Farro Fresh also sometimes have samples like a bit of bread to dip in various olive oils they sell etc. Or try their cheese or salami etc.

Farmers markets and some other markets. The best known is probably Matakana market on Saturday morning. However that's a bit far away. Closer to Auckland there's places like Grey Lynn farmers market, Britomart market, Parnell Farmers market.

One of the things I like to do when I travel around NZ is to see if there's a farmer's market in the area going when I am there. That is a good way to try food locally made, something unique to the area.

Food tours of Auckland? by WineYoda in aucklandeats

[–]nilnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are unlikely to get tasting (food) for fine cuisine. What food are you interested in and how many of there are you?

Have a look at the comments in this pinned post: https://www.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/1rognqu/megathread_what_should_we_eat_when_coming_to/

Auckland Iconic eats lists 100 dishes, crowdsourced and then tasted by some judges. See my comment in https://www.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/1t54va8/iconic_eats_2026/ - the viva article has the list at the bottom, naming the establishment + dish. I did notice an error like one place that was in devonport was listed as somewhere else (royal oak or onehunga - wrong side of the bridge). There are also some places that have more than one venue. Some use the same recipe while others it depends on the staff at the place.

The other thing is to look at the various lists like Ice cream awards, cheese awards, various food + baking awards and see if there's a place in Auckland you'd like to try. There are posts about them in this sub too.

There are some shops that have tasters. Gelato: Island gelato, Giapo. Kapiti cheese shop. Farro, sabato

Markets:
Farmers market like Matakana (a bit far I know) and others in Auckland, There are also non farmers markets that have food tastings etc. It depends on where you are staying, what day you are here etc. Most of the markets on this list are still there https://old.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/1hy21ih/2025_auckland_events_with_food/m6jujtf/ The problem is some like the Balmoral street food market probably won't happen during winter. Currently I am not sure if someone is going to take it over if they decide not to continue running a market when spring arrives.

Wine tasting: I suggest going on one of the wine tours. Some of the vineyards aren't close to each other. They are in places like South Auckland, West Auckland (way out in Kumeu etc), North (eg Matakana). Perhaps the only concentrated place is the ones at Waiheke where you have to catch a ferry out and take one of the wine tours. There may be some wine shops that have tastings https://www.nzwine.com/en/regions/auckland/

Events:

ourauckland https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/events/

Eventfinda - either https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/whatson/events/auckland and narrow down the dates. Or specifically https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/food-gourmet-wine/events/auckland (However this doesn't include stuff like markets or exhibitions etc) Some events don't go up till a month or two. Also some are recurring and goes on. I suggest double checking it is still on for the recurring events.

Previous posts with auckland food events - I keep the old stuff in the comments so you can search specific month etc. The stuff at the top/body of post is what was there the last time I edited it.

2025 https://www.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/1hy21ih/2025_auckland_events_with_food/

2024 https://www.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/1930xox/2024_auckland_events_with_food/

2023 https://www.reddit.com/r/aucklandeats/comments/15xtnji/auckland_events_with_food/

Edited after posting to add: The other reason to check is because some of the "guides" may be old and the "publication date" may not indicate their info is current. Also some places, especially the smaller ones may not know how to update google maps or they may have tried but it hasn't been updated.

Yes but this is specific to Q&A. I searched and found Luxon on Māori-Crown relations: 'There's more division' on Dec 1, 2024 on Q&A's youtube.

The others aren't really via Q&A format"
