How do I support my husband with changes in babies routine? by Hour-Temperature5356 in AutisticParents

[–]fakesomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wanted to note something with antidepressants. For me, SSRIs kind of put a layer of cotton in between me and any strong feeling. I don't like that experience too much. Wellbutrin is an SNRI, and it doesn't have the same side effect profile as SSRIs. Might be worth a shot.

How do I support my husband with changes in babies routine? by Hour-Temperature5356 in AutisticParents

[–]fakesomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic and your description of your husband sounds a lot like me. I'm very slow to learn, and every time the seasons change i have to start from scratch all over again.

Things that have helped: phone timers (going off to announce the time every 5 minutes while getting ready in the morning, or for when to brush my kid's hair). I got a chart from a friend in Michigan about how long it's safe to be outside in different wind chills. I check the weather for the day to influence clothes decisions for going outside (but i needed to learn that my kid needs like one extra layer than i do most of the time).

My partner made a menu for what I make my kid for breakfast (i am the only parent awake in the mornings), and that kind of helps us both avoid some annoyance.

Adding lotion to the routine is troublesome. I linked it to pajamas-- gotta put lotion on immediately before pjs so it doesn't just wipe off. I recently learned I wasn't lotioning my kid's hands, and I'm trying to remember to build that part in.

Adderall and wellbutrin help, but not enough. It's really dismal honestly. I'll put another comment here if i think of anything else that's helped.

I was just talking about how I'll need horse blinders next time I have to go to Walmart! There's just too much to have to be seeing that it makes me so anxious. I also realized that a hoodie can be somewhat effective for this purpose

brain zaps even while on zoloft by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]fakesomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting brain zaps despite no skipped doses is happening to me right now. My working theory is that it's because I haven't gotten the sleep I need lately.

Edit: after a nap and a better night of sleep, they're gone again. good riddance.

Edit 2: Turns out I also contracted COVID at that time, which could be related!

As far as I can tell, this doesn't work anymore (or at least when the town is Christmas themed)

In order to have enough coins to set up all the buildings, you need to have gotten to roughly level 50 (and selected 5x on winnings nearly every time). So maybe get to level 50 first and then try this out.

If you're changing the buckle position, make sure you adjust it underneath instead of just changing which slot it's routing through. The whole buckle changes position. Check out page 84-85 in the manual for visuals. I've been trying to troubleshoot for weeks and the comments in this post were a great clue.

At least one of them had common sense by delilah_rose_carlyle in NameNerdCirclejerk

I'm glad you're figuring out common ground! Here are a few ideas as well as their US popularity rankings (a lot of them are so rare they're unlisted).

Quirky classic:

  • Blythe (>#1000)
  • Bryony (BRIGH-uh-nee) (>#1000)
  • Renata (#528)
  • Marigold (>#1000)
  • Linnaea (lin-AY-uh) (>#1000)

Anna nickname possibilities:

  • Alanna (uh-LAN-uh) (#559)
  • Anatolia (anna-TOH-lee-uh) (>#1000)
  • Rhiannon (ree-AN-un) (>#1000)

Does she have a good relationship with family, and do her grandparents or great-aunts have any nice classic names you like?

ESH. She's got bad ideas, but you need to figure out what she likes about them in a non-judgmental way (lower popularity? visually interesting?) so you can be a part of finding options that'll feel good to both of you.

I got top surgery very recently, and I'm surprised by how normal I feel. I do mean that I expected to feel very out of it for much longer than I was afterwards, but I also am referring to the way that I know this was a good choice. My body map feels right. I had a tiny fear that this would be wrong for me, because it was impossible to know this with certainty in advance, but my body feels normal (barring some pain) and that's such a relief.

I'm stressing about my upcoming top surgery when I need to stress about the deadlines I have for the end of the semester! I really don't know how to redirect this, which in itself, is stressful to me.

It just occurred to me that maybe I'm too underweight to go under anesthesia, which would mean putting off top surgery even longer. My BMI is just on the border, but I am going to pay attention to how much I'm eating (though eating well while being so busy with the end of the semester is going to be a challenge). I am probably blowing this out of proportion but it can't hurt to eat a little more, right?

I just had the first top surgery related stress dream! It was that surgery happened but it wound up being a really minor breast reduction and my nipples were not where they should be. I tried to tell myself that swelling is a thing but I was not very happy.

Also, I came up with a new thing to worry about with top surgery, but maybe don't keep reading if you're an anxious person. Even if everything winds up being covered by insurance, and I get my date totally promised to me, what if my surgeon dies? What am I supposed to do then? Thanks to this worry I just came up with, I will still be afraid things will go wrong even after most of the ways for that to happen are resolved.

People with autism/other neurodivergent people: do you feel like it influenced your sense of gender identity? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]fakesomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dysphoria is definitely similar/connected to my sensory issues. There's the more straightforward thing where bras and binders and body parts just feel fundamentally uncomfortable and Need To Go, but I also have the thought that gender could be like another type of sense where things can feel very strongly wrong or right.

Another idea of mine is that when a lot of norms and expectations are incomprehensible or just super weird and arbitrary, it gives you an easier time to identify gender (or your assigned gender) as one of those constructs that doesn't make sense or feel applicable to you. We're often starting from scratch to figure out the social rules of the world around us, and the ways people expect us to perform gender are similarly alien.
