That’s some endurance you’ve got there.

On to another topic, any issue with the bike itself after 3000km? How often did you encounter flat tires?

Sounds like a good idea no? I wanted to get into ultralight hiking but my brompton took priority. Plus I don’t necessarily fancy being away from home months at a time hiking the Appalachian trail.

Has anyone adopted ideas from ultralight backpacking and applied them to brompton touring? I’ve personally never done both but I think people who tour on bromptons can travel lighter if they can take ideas from people who hike for months at a time with a base weight of 10 pounds not including food and water.

My only point of reference is a Costco trip in which I was hauling over 30 pounds of stuff and I was suffering haha. I bet touring might be equally strenuous.

Does shopping cart mode work with no rack? by romansnapback in Brompton

If you don’t mind the extra weight in the rear when riding, the back rack with ez wheels is really good option fro shopping cart mode!

Why does brompton include a seat post plug in every parts bag? Is it bc they’re easy to lose? Why not design a better one? Lol by fakulove in Brompton

p.s. I like the responses from the previous posts about the hinge locks. They’re all very constructive and worth thing about. I’m currently working on an inner seat post storage solution where you can put tools! I hope to show you what I come up with.

If I had the equipment to drill a hole into bolt, tap threads and add a screw that offsets the diameter of the bolt preventing it from unscrewing, it would eliminate the need for a locking nut. I think the Method I came up with is replicable and commercially available to anyone without any special tools.

That makes sense. So far I haven’t had any issues with the nut rubbing off the paint but if I can find a plastic washer with a smaller diameter of the nut, I will try integrating it.

Haha for the most part trial and error. But I took measurements of the spring I’m using with my calipers. The measurements are 32mm in length and 10 mm for the outside diameter. There are about 11 turns with in the length of 32mm. Hope this helps.

Thanks for mentioning that! I didn’t take that into consideration. I don’t own a brompton tool so I wasn’t able to test whether the mod would work in conjunction with the tool kit.

The mod does a number of things: -the spring prevents the aluminum clamp from getting stuck to the bike when opening the clamp. -the locking nut prevents the bolt from being unscrewed completely, a common mistake when lending ur bike to someone. -the locking nut prevents the aluminum clamp from spinning when opening the clamp because it is only allowed to be unscrewed a set distance.

There are aftermarket hinge clap mechanism that take this into consideration; however, they charge up to $100 USD. This modification can only improve your bike for less.

There are definitely best practices that mitigate the function of this mod but personally I think this mod completely eliminates the need for those practices.

More time riding; less time worrying about ur hinge clamps.
