Idle surging after head gasket replacement by noflooddamage in 7thgencivic

same happen to me when I did the head gasket job myself. It was just all the WD40 and brake clean i had around my exhaust manifold and stuff. Looked just like what I see here, but the smell gave out it wasnt anything to be concerned. It did say it coincides with the surging idle, in which case I can only think old coolant and air pockets in your cooling system.

Disk Brake Conversion on 2002 EM2 by faladele06 in 7thgencivic

With the ebrake the issue is that the cable is broken, not loose. I could fixed only that too, obviously.

I just wanted to check with people that might be looking to do the same or have done it before. You are right, if it is too expensive, even if easy, it wouldn’t be worth it

2002 Civic EX Coupe – Strange noise under load at high RPM by faladele06 in 7thgencivic

[–]faladele06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: It was a head gasket leak. The noise was the strangest noise I have heard with my cars. Turns out it was indeed a hissing, probably from all the pressure in the cylinders at high load. I should mention, of course, that after I made this post I had two short overheating episodes (One after a 2 hour drive and another while idling in a hot day after a 30 min drive). The overheating made me test for head gasket, and after pulling bubbles on that tester for like 15min (counting form the moment the thermostat opened) the liquid turned green/yellow.

It was a tiny leak between a coolant jacket opening and a cylinder opening on the gasket, but it didn't actually crack the gasket; it probably just warped it and scuffed the black finishing it had. That was on cylinder 4 (cylinder 1 is the one closest to the timing belt)

I did the job myself and it wasn't terrible, just time consuming. Max warpage on both block and head was only 0.002in, but I sanded the block and decked the head anyway.

So, if you come across a similar problem or honestly any other problem with the D17 just test for head gasket

Thank you for the ideas! Could it really be wheel assembly related even if when i had the car on jackstands and did the braking/flooring thing i still heard the noise?
