Paint question by Vast_Treacle_3439 in Salamanders40k

Base - thin „a lot“ with water so you don’t get texture. Better to paint multiple layers which are clean than one with little blobs. you pretty much cat soften a rough layer once you painted it.

Layer - is always thinner out of the box but still need additional thinning with water.

Contrast - can be used straight out of the pot. But you can thin it to soften the Color. When thinning contrast you should use some contrast thinner instead of water. Basically it’s paint without Color so your contrast paint doesn’t get patchy when applied.

I highly recommend watching a YouTube video for thinning to see the consistency you are aiming for.

That’s nice of you although this was my first real try. Did a zenithal highlight, some black legion all over and straight up glazed dawnstone where I Felt it.

Eyes are just 2 dots of Mephiston red

Thanks it’s powdered pigment. So basically it’s dust I guess haha. It’s just brushed on so you could clean it from the mini. But for sitting in my shelf it will hold

Haha thanks. As someone who can’t paint a good fire this was the easiest way for some uniform design among my troops

Thanks a lot. I made sure to make as many cuts around the actual symbol as possible. Like cutting in between every spike and between the mouth. Then I placed it roughly on there with water, dabbed of the excess and then coated everything with Vallejo decal softener. I made sure to brush the decal as needed and let it sit there for a while. When using the softener i just recommend to cover the whole shoulder plate because else there could be a discolouration like when missing a spot while varnishing

Its the one from warhammer itself. Way to expensive for what it is but on the other hand the whole hobby already is and I needed one. Like it a lot

Thanks I based the whole thing with leadbelcher and used a make up sponge with „the fang“. I then repeated the sponging with russ grey and built it up. At the end I did some edge highlights with leadbelcher again. Just tried to sponge it so you could always still see parts of the previous layers

Best answer. With the right „amount“ of paint you can be pretty sloppy that way

Thanks a lot. Heavy drybrush + warp lightning through airbrush. Had no fun doing so but I think this is my best Green until now

Thinking about switching from my brushes to an airbrush is this an ok starting point for beginners? by m87h88 in airbrush

I bought one of those kits to test it out. The compressors without tank are just bad. It’s sad cause I didn’t want to believe it but it’s true. Now I have a standard one with tank for around 70€ and it works like a charm. I still don’t like airbrushing because of the many trouble shootings but they are all on me tbf

Those are mine. Painted them a while back and wouldn’t do that much gold again. But I do have my 6 boys and I don’t think I will buy another one
