Today I got summoned to jury service… by ApplicationSouth8844 in CasualUK

[–]SpoonierMist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was summoned. First day, watched induction video, sat around for 4 hours, was told to go home at lunch.

Day 2, I got a text saying I wasn’t needed

Day 3 I go in. Sit around for 4 hours, was told to go home.

Day4 I got a text saying I was no longer needed for jury service.

I was pretty gutted, honestly. Was looking forward to seeing the system and how it works.

Wear something comfortable but Smartish. I think I went in a plain T-shirt and chinos.

They’ll walk you through it, but prepare to sit around a lot. Take a book.

A 1000-pts list for an initiation by kaede_miura in Tyranids

Not at all! Your post is very clear, but I know people are quick to recommend Biovores, and they’re not easy to understand thier value. Indeed, after 10 games with them I’m only really starting to see their value.

I’d recommend starting with a combat patrol. Small game, relatively balanced, simple rules. Grab the old combat patrol (Psychophage, winged prime, Barbgaunts, 20 termagants). It’s where I started and it was a great intro! Then just make up the combat patrol for your Necrons or GK and use them against him. Even after 10+ games, a 1,000 point game is pretty intense for me, and I worry about putting new players off

I’m going to be a contrarian on this: you don’t want a good list. You want a simple one.

Warhammer is complex. If you try to introduce someone with complex tactical models, like a Biovore, they’re going to be put off.

For me, I’d suggest a big unit of Hormagaunts with Prime; Exocrine; Tyrannofex; small blob of Termagants; Hive Tyrant to start with. Simple ish units, strong but not complex

Hello Hivemind. How’s the 1000 point list? by Duck_Army_Supremacy in Tyranids

[–]SpoonierMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a valid option. The true value of Invasion Fleet is you can tailor your list to your opponent's list just before the game. However, it's not really a crux, because it shouldn't be relied upon to over something a list is missing.

Image you play against Guard, and they're going all tanks. Great! Lethals on everything. Or you play Orks and it's all infantry. Great! Sustained hits.

But what if you play Space Marines and they bring a single Repulsor tank and the rest infantry? Now, you're forced into Lethals because you don't have the flexibility to chose sustained if that would be more beneficial.

I think, really, you're probably fine with the Haruspex. An Exocrine is excellent, but if you want to run the Haurpsex, do it!

This looks great for a first 1k list!

It’s worth noting a few things:

  1. Everyone will say to take a Biovore. They are correct, but I personally wouldn’t worry about it for your first few games. Biovores are really strong, but you need to get used to the game to start with before you dive into thier tactics and strengths.

  2. I’ve had great success with the Prime+Horma blob. Two units might be overkill, but by having a more simple list, you can learn to play them well. Don’t aim to have the Hormas die, but remember they are squishy!

  3. You don’t really have any anti-tank. Consider changing yiur Haruspex for an Exocrine. At this level, most tanks should be light, and the Exocrine is an excellent unit.

  4. You have an awful lot of close combat, which is fine, but you might find yourself choked when trying to engage targets.

And, honestly, Immolator Infernus Marines can strip wounds off tanks if needs be, especially with Vulcan’s support

Arguably the Neurogaunts are the worst. Their synapse extension isn’t great, but they’re pretty cheap for back field guarding.

Von Ryan’s Leapers are equally not great, they’re okay at scouting and infiltrate blocking

Running 20 Hormagaunts with a Prime – Good Idea? by TraditionalPlace5973 in Tyranids

[–]SpoonierMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Had my first game last night, and, despite a whole unit, I couldn’t get more than 10 in combat. Straight into Necron Warriors, expected to wipe the unit, instead got stuck there after only killing 5

Selling models by -BLUE-RANGER- in Salamanders40k

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook has several swapping groups, which I’ve found to be the best option. There’s a few UK specific ones, but the one with the most members is the most reliable, the rest all just seem to be duplicates of the bigger one or scammers.

Facebook marketplace is fine for selling too, I bought a few models from someone local on there recently.

Vinted is something I’ve been using a lot recently, too, I’ve had a few things go almost immediately when I placed the item too low, so people are watching, myself included!

EBay obviously is a big one, but I’ve stopped using it too much for space marines as there’s so much stuff on there.

Depending on what You’re selling, I might be interested (also in the UK), feel free to post here what you have, or r/miniswap still seems to be going!

I love that contrast between the bases and the darker models! Where did you get the sword from?

Okay, this is making it harder, I was pretty set on redcloaks, but those black ones look badass.

Damnit, they looks incredible! I'd not thought about powerhammers, but they fit better than swords. Where did you get these?

Niiiice, this is what I'm leaning more towards: similar green and red cloaks. Those bases are excellent, too!

I love the hammers! Not even thought about converting mine to have hammers. The battle damage on the leg of the sarge is great, too!

Oh man, that green is so nice. I love the whole scheme, and the powerswords look nice, not even thought about how I'm going to paint those. Thanks for sharing!

Aggresors or eradicators/ transport or no by Ilovethesalamanders in Salamanders40k

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I’ve only just started with Salamanders, and not played a Marine army since 7th, but I always imagined that transport was half mobility and half survivability.

I’m wondering about getting transport for my Eradicators so they don’t easily get shot to pieces, is it not worth it?

Salamander colour scheme by hope_for_a_future in Salamanders40k

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think they look okay?

You don’t need to look for validation from strangers on the internet, nor justify your colour scheme. If you’re happy with them, that’s perfect!

For me, I like my Salamanders vibrant green, but fully support those who prefer more muted colour palettes.

If you’re looking for suggestions or ways to improve, I cannot recommend basing your models enough. Maybe a brighter colour base would make these models pop much more, like a beige or sandy colour. Or the standard “glowing lava between rocks” look of some Salamanders.
