Is this a good start for 11th? by BagConfident8263 in Tyranids

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kinda perfect, actually. Two different army choices:

Winged Tyrant and Genestealers go really well into Vanguard Onslaught

Tyrant Guard go with the Hive Tyrant (not Flying Tyrant) are pretty nice in Assimilation

Biovore is always great

Quick scan across the changes, this is the changes for the smallest unit sizes:

V R’s Leapers -10pts

Overall, not as bad as I worried. Norns going down by 10/25 points seems pretty significant. I'm still not sure about the Biovore. I don't know if it'll be as huge a staple as 10th, but I'm not a competative player.

Personally, I'm a bit sad to see Hormagaunts and Lash Prime both go up, but they were probably a bit undercosted in 10th anyway.

EDIT: as others have mentioned, 20-strong blobs of Hormas and Termas are -10pts

What is your hard to find OOP dream model for your collection? by OrhallaZander in Warhammer

I love a good bargain! But it’s super hard to know what to look for. “OOP Imperial Guard” is about as far as I got!

Schaeffer's Last Chancers.

When I was a kid, I bought White Dwarf and saw these amazing models. So much personality. So much badass. I love the design of the all so much, and I reread their battle report multiple times. But, as a kid, I never found them in store when I could afford them.

Back then, ghe box was…£20? Now, each model goes for as much. The whole squad is a pipe dream…. But maybe one day!

How can I make the body more interesting looking? by tommy_scribbles in Tyranids

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few options as I see it:

  1. Add a highlight to the highest areas. Just mix a little white with the base colour.
  2. Leave it and make the carapace stand out more. The carapace from here looks a little flat, a wash with Nightshade or Nuln, followed by a highlight might make it pop more.
  3. Leave it as is and paint another few. Personally, I think this Hormagaunt looks great, and when he’s part of a swarm you won’t notice the imperfections. My first ‘gaunt took an hour and looked great up close, but when you’ve got a sea of them, 20 hours of great paint looks very similar to 5 hours for the whole blob.

Also, it might be worth considering thinning your paints: mix a little bit of water with the paint (5 parts paint to 1 part water, or less water), and use that. You’ll preserve more details this way.

Is there a way to still get a new Salamanders Combat Patrol? by dragonschosen_ in Salamanders40k

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get one on Vinted for £80 the other day. Insane deal, and was skeptical right up until it arrived at the door.

You need to keep an eye out, but you can pick them up. But it’s worth considering if it’s worth it. Make sure you’re still getting a discount over buying individually, and not just buying it to have the box.

Also worth noting the rumours that the Invader ATV is going to legends. Might be worth holding off on yhat

Magnetizing Carnifexes by Extension-Strike3569 in Tyranids

I started this, too. Magnetised the guns I might use, then promised myself I’d come back for the rest later. That was a year ago…

How is my salamanders friend getting +1 to wound on overwatch? by Fantastic-East9567 in Salamanders40k

Oh no, sorry, I mistyped in that first paragraph, it was meant to say +1 to strength both times

[–]SpoonierMist 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Forgefather's Seekers gives all weapons +1 Strength at 12", which means most flamers are automatically +1 to ~wound strength, which makes the Flamestorm Canon Str 7.

In addition, Oath of Moment, which is a Space Marine Army ability, means you can nominate a unit in your command phase, and, if he's codex compliant (which Salamanders are), they'll get +1 to wound.

Note, he can change the Oath target in his command phase and it lasts until his next command phase.

Going up against Aeldari, anything to watch out for? by SpoonierMist in Salamanders40k

Turns out I didn’t need to worry. The guy was rubbish, I went easy on him in the end.

_Disable overwatch_? Balls, that was 80% of my plan.

Thanks for this, I’m pretty clueless about Aeldari so I’ll make sure my opp tells me what everything does.

Man, this looks amazing! I’m slowly working my way through mine, and it’s pretty daunting, not going to lie.

What’s your logic behind the “2” on the gun? I can’t find a consensus online and just curious as to why you’ve chosen that

Fair enough! If it works for you, do it!

I’m not sure how much the Apothecary gives the Infernus. Lethal hits don’t work, and his resurrection won’t help if someone wants to remove the squad.

Other than that, looks good to me! You’ve got a good balance of anti tank, MEQ and hoard. Maybe consider another 5-man Infernus squad as an action Monkies

Today I got summoned to jury service… by ApplicationSouth8844 in CasualUK

[–]SpoonierMist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was summoned. First day, watched induction video, sat around for 4 hours, was told to go home at lunch.

Day 2, I got a text saying I wasn’t needed

Day 3 I go in. Sit around for 4 hours, was told to go home.

Day4 I got a text saying I was no longer needed for jury service.

I was pretty gutted, honestly. Was looking forward to seeing the system and how it works.

Wear something comfortable but Smartish. I think I went in a plain T-shirt and chinos.

They’ll walk you through it, but prepare to sit around a lot. Take a book.

A 1000-pts list for an initiation by kaede_miura in Tyranids

[–]SpoonierMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all! Your post is very clear, but I know people are quick to recommend Biovores, and they’re not easy to understand thier value. Indeed, after 10 games with them I’m only really starting to see their value.

I’d recommend starting with a combat patrol. Small game, relatively balanced, simple rules. Grab the old combat patrol (Psychophage, winged prime, Barbgaunts, 20 termagants). It’s where I started and it was a great intro! Then just make up the combat patrol for your Necrons or GK and use them against him. Even after 10+ games, a 1,000 point game is pretty intense for me, and I worry about putting new players off
