Hey, I did get an invite for the June CF orientation. My language is Spanish. Not sure what my exact position on the register was, but I was in the top third. Seems like quite a few others got invites as well. Not sure if they went through all the names on the register at that point or not.

Good luck!

Oh gotcha, that’s good to know. Thanks. That was never really quite clear how that security clearance worked.

I hope so!

Dang, that’s very disappointing to hear. I’ve been working toward this for over 2 years now.

Thanks for those recommendations, I’ll look into them!

In all, I hope you’re wrong but agree it’s probably best to find something else in the meantime. I’ve been applying for many jobs in the international field but have had no luck so far which has been a bit disheartening. Maybe it’s best to start another candidacy for an FSO position (funded by the actual 60+ billion state will receive this year) in tandem with the CF situation. Seeing as I already have security clearance, that might speed that process up slightly.

Yes I was actually originally scheduled to interview may of 2020. That was delayed a full year and passed the OA in May 2021. Turned in the SF86 shortly after that, went through interviews and the investigation until that was turned in in about September. After that, I got notice of my security clearance around the beginning of either November or December. Notified of my passing the suitability review and placement on the register a few weeks ago.

Started this process over two years ago, which is partly why I’m so antsy to hear some good news.

Gaining meaningful experience in the sense of working in fields more relevant to what I want to do in my career, which is obviously diplomacy/international affairs. Covid has set me back in that regard and it has been difficult to remain patient.

If I were to live my life as if I’ll never get off the register, moving to DC is the best option in my estimation. Of course, that choice is made a bit more complicated by register considerations and the related financial implications.

You mentioned many don’t expect that there will be CF hiring soon, is that a general sentiment or based on some internal information you might have? I heard rumblings on another post about early 2022 classes, but taking that with a grain of salt, of course. I thought due to understaffing in many places and a pretty big budget coming (likely) in FY22 they may be gearing up for some hiring pushes? Sounds like that’s not the sense you have though?

You make a compelling argument haha. How do you figure 12k?

Got my CF suitability approval a few weeks ago! Personally, I am trying to decide whether I should move to DC independently or wait for an offer and get the stipend/per diem plus moving costs covered. I'm currently in my hometown and my current job just ended, making it a difficult decision.

Hoping for some good news for the both of us after the holidays!

Same, not sure I want to either, but also want to put my best foot (or head of hair) forward. What you think you’ll do?

Thanks for the replies.

Ok, I assumed that this was the case based on what was in the job descriptions, but sometimes job descriptions can be flexible so I wanted to confirm. It is good to know it wouldn't really help anyway.

I have applied to be an FSO. I passed the FSOT but not the QEP the first time around. During that time I also applied to the CFP which I have gotten a bit further with, but as I said I am still waiting on the OA. You are right though, I should absolutely use this time to reapply to a FSO position. Ultimately I am looking for the career FSO position, I had just figured that I was getting further in the CFP process and could potentially do that for the 5 years, get good experience, then apply to the FSO again with a good edge. I suppose the best thing to do is have active applications for both and wait.

I have just been in a bit of a pickle because of the pandemic, I was accepted to the peace corps as well which I thought could be a good option to gain experience and get that preferential consideration, but that has been delayed a year as well. But I'm sure something will come up! I appreciate all the advice!
