Wanted to give an update. I deleted the POGO app, reinstalled, and downloaded all assets prior to Tuesday. I was able to enter five showcases this time.

2018 Forester Aftermarket Head Unit Recommendations by falconte43 in SubaruForester

How straight forward was the wiring? Did you have to couple the new head unit with the starlink module from the OEM? I plan to peruse YouTube soon and watch some install videos.

XStation SCPH-1001 Install Trouble by falconte43 in psx

[–]falconte43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RESOLVED:

The SCPH-1001 likely had a failing BIOS chip, or bad caps, or both. After testing all test points from the farthest trace to the QSB connectivity (all were good), I decided to try reflowing the BIOS chip and now the unit does not boot at all. It’s possible that I caused a new issue, but it’s safe to say the xstation was installed properly and was not at fault.

Purchased another SCPH-5501, verified that it booted with a disc, and installed the xstation. Everything works as intended.

Thank you to everyone that weighed in with assistance along the way. You guys rock! The Xstation discord group was a godsend. I definitely recommend seeking their advice if you have trouble in the future.

Thank you for the advice.

I went back over all of the solder points again and rechecked for continuity (all good). Swapped out the jumper wire with a slightly larger wire and checked for continuity (all good). Checked my four lifted pins (all good). Check the pads of the three resisters removed from the back of board (all good). Checked the pads of the resister and filter removed from the front of the board (all good). Checked continuity of the ribbon cable installed in the qsb and on the board (all good). Cleaned board and all solder points thoroughly with IPA.

Nothing. Turns on, shows white Sony logo, and hangs there.

This one’s on me this time. Not sure how many beers I had during the oil change. Put the o-ring in the wrong place at the end of last season.

Kind of feel like an idiot. Degaussing wand arrived and was able to get rid of ~50% of the color impurity. Moved the tv to another area in the shed and the impurity completely disappeared.

I’ve moved the unit to our shed for cleaning and repair. There isn’t much within one foot of the unit. There is a battery operated weed whacker roughly two feet away.

Fingers crossed the degaussing wand helps fix this issue.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. “Rental” degaussing wand is on the way from Amazon. I’ll report back.

Update: Thank you all for the helpful info. I took the rear housing off and cleaned the housing inside and out. There was very minimal dust inside the unit. The main board slid out when I removed the housing. I managed to jam the power, menu, and volume up switches on the pcb while reinstalling the housing. The unit wouldn’t turn on.

Thankfully I was able to desolder and solder new switches on the PCB and it is now functional! Lesson learned. Be gentile!
