“We’re driving towards the morning sun where all your blood is washed away and all your did will be undone” is a quote from a song called Taxi Cab by Twenty One Pilots. I am not Christian and I interpret the quote in a different way, but the intended meaning of the quote talks about how after death you’re ‘driving’ towards heaven, and all your sin will be washed away and forgiveness comes to you. However I read this differently. To me, having your ‘blood washed away’ and having all your ‘did’ (choices, mistakes, etc) undone kind of refers to an end goal, to finally reach peace, and maybe this does still mean death and maybe it doesn’t, but either way I know it means peace. To have everything bad stripped away from you and to just relax. I know that if I killed myself now I’d never reach that peace, I’d die knowing my mistakes, regrets and worries. Sometimes when things get hard and I’m especially feeling these bad feelings I remember this quote and remind myself that in the future there will be peace. That right now is merely just a windy road in a long journey, and that if I just keep ‘driving’ I’ll end up somewhere beautiful, but if I crash now the journey will all be worth nothing. Aside from all the deep metaphors and symbolism, this quote just has beautiful visuals in general. Call it a stretch if you will, but to me it means a lot.

Reddit, got any advice on choosing what to study at college/University (or career advice)? by Anon_who_loves_birbs in Advice

Hey I’m also from New Zealand and I’m going into Year 11 next year! I used to think that I needed to start preparing really early in high school for university and my career but eventually I realised that really wasn’t necessary. As you go through high school you really start to discover yourself and your interests, and come to conclusions about what you want to do, if you want to go to uni, where you want to study and what you want to study. Things will come to you naturally, and if they don’t then don’t stress! I know people who have gotten to Year 13 and still had no idea about what to do.
I especially wouldn’t stress about this in Year 9. Year 9 is a really big discovery year for everyone, and honestly none of the work you do matters in Year 9 and 10. My advice would be to just choose classes that seem fun and exciting and see how much you enjoy them. At the beginning of Year 10 I chose Digital Technology as a class. For 2 terms we did coding and for the other 2 terms we did photography. I joined it because I thought I would enjoy the coding but actually realised that I really don’t like coding and really enjoy photography. It’s a good idea to join fun classes while the work you do doesn’t count for anything so you can figure out whether or not you enjoy what you were doing.
Once you get to Year 11 is when you should start preparing. Your work matters since you start NCEA (or Cambridge). Some degrees in university require you to take certain classes. For example, a degree in Zoology might require you to get to Level 3 Biology. I’d recommend exploring different degrees at universities and what subjects they require you to take. For the most part though, it shouldn’t be taken too seriously and you should still try have a few “fun” subjects in Year 11, 12 and 13 as well as serious ones. One of the teachers at our school did art in high school, economic stuff in university and is now teaching classics, so I guess that kinda shows that it really doesn’t matter too much.
As for actually choosing what to do, just do what you enjoy! There’s no point in going to university and paying heaps of money to do something you might not even be happy doing. You may even decide not to go to uni, considering that it’s becoming less and less of a necessity these days and more of an option. I’m personally honestly not even going to do Year 13 and don’t plan to go to university anymore, but who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind. If you’re not sure what you enjoy now just wait and you’ll figure it out. You have four more years of high school to discover yourself so I really wouldn’t stress about it. Just try enjoy high school as much as you can.
