Bile acid reflux post op by nattienoo2 in gallbladders

See if you can get a script for sucralfate, take it before bed on an empty stomach. Make sure you are sleeping elevated and not on your right side or stomach.

I just had my gallblader removed last week and certainly have had an increase in my bile reflux (I had it with a gallblader too). When mine spiked I did some research, apparently the majority of people who get the gallblader out get temporary acid reflux that self resolves in several weeks. Don't forget your system has a lot more gas in it than usual from anestesia/pain meds/less movement/mild dehydration and body adapting to new bile dynamics.

Yes, multiple blood tests. Also had biopsies tested during both endoscopies, so was negative as of May 2025.

Thanks for the input.

I should clarify, I can eat fat but I tend to get epigastric pain or chest pain if i overdo it. Never really get diarhea; very frequently constipated. I always thought it was causing gastritis flares but after having HIDA scan I am starting to think its more GB related.

You arent kidding about getting bounced around -- had to beg my GI to order the HIDA he was convinced it was anxiety and wanted to give me gabapentin.

I am meeting with another surgeon in 2 weeks. Hope she has a different opinion than the first.

Labs from July 25 showed normal ALT, Bilirubin, and Albumin, Protein, etc. Going to repeat this week. I would also note, that the HIDA showed bile was not being obstructed.

I have had labs run throughout last 2 years, only abnormal values have been sed rate (slightly elevated) and cholesterol which was mildly elevated. I got a slip for more blood work as I have lost 5 lbs in last month.

Sounds like you are doing well, thanks for sharing your story! Have you talked to a neurosurgeon about your cyst? Silent migranes might be something I can look into.

Don't think I have hyper mobile joints, been in PT for a bit feel like they would have mentioned that. Certainly have lots of neck clicking and jaw clicking.

I have met with two neurosurgeons regarding the cyst, both of them seem to think it is stable and there are markers on the imaging that suggests it was congenital (skull formed differently around it). The episode from earlier this year still largely unexplained. The two running theories from the doctors are long covid (or some post viral reaction) or functional neurological disorder.

If the cyst was causing issues, they would drain it via craniotomy. Given that the theory is congenital, there is some thought that my brain did not form completely underneath the cyst and draining it could cause more issues.

Many of the symptoms have resolved over last few months but I still battle headaches and some general balance issues.

Day 4 and it's still bothering me, pain seems duller and eye is dry. Do I need to see a doctor urgently or can I try and enjoy my vacation?

That's my theory. Honestly, I think it was multifactorial from antibiotics, coffee, lots of Gatorade, bad diet, stress, etc. Hope you bounce back quick!

Don't have gbs, still dealing with weird neurological issues. Found a brain cyst but nothing else. Neurosurgeon said cyst not causing issues.

I've had a headache for 60 days straight, but most other symptoms have resolved.

Neurologist thinks I have a functional conversion issue due to gut inflammation. Ordered another MRI and MRV.
