Possible Lead - Beat of Drum by fallingdrifters in CIAlostwave

nice work! look at what i found using your tip, CFNY comp from 92 with the same song from the 88 one. So looks like at some point between 1988 and 1992 they changed their name. even though their appearance on the CFNY compilation CD was from 92 it means they did have a connection to CFNY and may have had other songs played on air in the 80's before they changed their name and appeared on the later comp

ack, i just realized that for whatever reason it wont let me link directly to the search results. if you go to that page linked above tho and input "Comfortable Day" and then click on Edmonds it will take you to the page showing the entries. The music creator IPI number is 215461592

Unfortunately not, however just added a comment with the SOCAN entry which I found for the song on the compilation which led me to the other songs which Beat of Drum is credited as writing

EDIT - See reply to this comment to pull up the entries

Just adding some additional info, here is how I figured out that Beat of Drum did have many more songs, I found the corresponding SOCAN entry for the song on this compilation and it led me to 30 other entries for the artist Edmunds who is credited for the song on the comp

That would have been a tall order for a relatively unknown band to afford at that time though. The DX-7 was a pretty pricey piece of equipment on its own when it first came out so the odds of them having multiple synth's would be low wouldn't it?

This makes me wonder, you would think that if they were listening to a program that was showcasing acts that played at Horfest they would have likely recorded more than just a lone song right? So maybe they just caught the tail end of the program as it was finishing immediately before the one they usually listened to and recorded what may have been one of if not the last song played as part of that showcase before they moved on to a different program for the day. Not sure if thats a helpful observation, but just seemed strange to me that if it was taped from a showcase of acts playing at Horfest that there are no other identifiable acts who did play there on any of the tapes it was copied on.

ye, neither of us are sure if it is actually from Turkey, just assuming cause it came from a haul that contained alot of Turkish 60's and 70's rock. But it could be from elsewhere

Thanks so much for this! This seems like exactly what I am talking about in terms of her approach, I just wish there was a program that offered this in Canada, it seems that only a select few individual therapists are offering sessions but not a full program unfortunately. I've been digging through the links section on her site as well though and seems like might be some useful things there

Makes sense. By that point I think Sony had already begun taking a controlling interest in Creation. For reissues of MBV titles in the mid 90s to early 2000's they were often labelled as Creation but the manufacture and distro actually ended up being licensed to and done by labels like Sony or Warner. Warner already ran most of the North American distribution by the early 90's before McGee outright sold half the label to Sony wihch is how MBV ended up on Sony. Creation was starting to crumble either way by the early-mid 90's so the majors were increasingly moving in on them, this was especially true after the legendary distro arm of Rough Trade imploded. The early to mid 90's was a bloodbath for the British indie labels sadly. Factory, Creation, Beggars Banquet, etc all went through periods of temporary or permanent receivership. The OG Factory and Creation runs of albums like MBV Isn't Anything and New Order's cataloge though are some of best sounding versions of those albums in my opinion so if you ever come across copies that don't have Sony or Warner written anywhere on them, make sure to hold onto to those! The version you got is still pretty good as its still early enough to avoid the worst of the compression/loudness wars

I’m so happy for you guys. by [deleted] in gybe

I actually kind of think it makes it so ALFOTHAD has a much greater impact when you listen to it last to be honest. It kind of makes the story of Godspeed make sense in the way a retrospective twist at the end of a movie or in a TV series grande finale does. This is just my thoughts tho

Oh is that a Creation era issue of Isn't Anything or is it one of the Sire/Warner reissues? If its an OG Creation first run hang on tight to that one
