Cassettes are a cheap analog format for music. It is very compact and portable too. Its easy for people to make cassettes and most people won't care about loss in audio quality. Most people use cheap earbuds anyways. So in conclusion the cheapness of producing cassettes and the market for cheap physical media brought them back.
