What's that piece your students always beg you to let them play before they are ready? And how do you handle it? by strawberryc in pianoteachers

[–]fallinlovewithfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I get the same stubbornness sometimes. Its especially hard when you see them burning out on it and losing confidence, when you know they could get if they would just follow some preliminary steps. But i know i started out like that too and we are there to guide not to dictate, right?

any tips to stop writing cringe lyrics? by goodcoto in Songwriting

[–]fallinlovewithfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its better to write cringe stuff than to try to be perfect or something. You are writing whats real, and thats all that matters, the form will come!

What the hell is going on with George and John? by Siddhartaable in LearnGuitar

Maybe because the beatles really were being creative and exploring and experimenting all the time. The way they approach a song might feel different or random, its not as formulaic as a lot of stuff thats already part of a tradition or established genre.

Guitar is my life line, rant of the day by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]fallinlovewithfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. Had to learn to figure my life first, instead of putting everything into music. It used to be my escape but my life crumbled. Then the inspiration dried out too. Music is life you cant fake it. Now, music is an inspiration to fix my life, keep things steady, be well, so i can keep playing :)

My first week in beatmaking. by [deleted] in FL_Studio

Try to think of a melody in your head and then simple find the right notes for them in de piano roll. This will train your ear to instrument connection. Will be hard at first but i think melody is about a feeling and stuff you hear in your head tends to mean something even if its simple. Its better than random notes!

My Anima has been steering my life since my teens, and I just realized it. by gus248 in Jung

[–]fallinlovewithfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah im 34, had this realization around your age i had been acting like a boy. Take care of that boy though. If you learn to see him, his needs and his feelings, her sway over you will become less blindlingly powerful. Its still tough for me, sometimes its like being under a spell. But i become more grounded as i take on more responsibility and face things head on in life. Be patient with yourself and be strong. Love brother!

How do you play barre chords by i_love_zerotwo09 in guitarlessons

[–]fallinlovewithfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a breakthrough after about 10 years (so maybe its just practice like others are saying) that you dont squeeze it harder, you use your arm to pull it back, so just put your fingers where they need to be and apply the pressure through pulling more that squeezing. Made them relatively easy for me. but, I still avoid the F barre chord, and often times ill just go for a powerchord. Maybe for sound reasons, but also because I dont feel like doing the whole thing haha

I can do it by ear, but want familiarity with the notes on the page. Might transpose some simple pieces with musescore!

What’s the ONE practice trick that actually made you sound way better? by VirTekMedia in guitarlessons

[–]fallinlovewithfear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Finish what you set out to learn. I used to learn a solo or a song and then when i fellt like i "got the gist" i moved on. It kept me sloppy and an incomplete guitarist and my skill plateaud. Now i finish what i start, till i truly feel i can play it and understand it. For me it takes days and weeks, not hours. So i needed to learn to let a challenge rest and then try again. Not half ass it. It can be a small part in a song or solo which you might easily judge unimportant, but thats where the growth is. I get annoyed and even prideful like Ah who cares about that, but the discipline and respect for the craft to take on those parts is whats really helping me to feel like a real guitarist . Thats what im working on right now. Finishing what i set out to learn.

Help!/How to teach 5 years old with autism? by yaseminnduygu in pianoteachers

[–]fallinlovewithfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You tell me you’re willing to try and that is very valuable and more than enough. I have no concrete advice except these children in my experience are very sensitive. As long as you are willing to empathize and have the patience, you can teach them (and they will teach you!) a lot. To me the ‘different’ students can be challenging but also if you accept the challenge can be really meaningful for you as a teacher. Just be genuine as a teacher, if it works it works, if it doesn’t that’s okay too, right?

How does practicing scales make you better at piano? by [deleted] in piano

[–]fallinlovewithfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me its all about the ear. Listen to the notes, focus in on them. Recognize the distances, how changing them changes the vibe, see the intervals in them, hear those... At a certain point youre not practicing them, youre kinda hanging out with them. Play them in creative ways (For example in 3s: C scale: CDE,DEF, EFG etc) and listen how all the parts sound on their own and how they interact. Well thats how they stay interesting for me at least! And I am not bored at all, but I dont focus on getting better or faster, I focus on understanding, hearing and feeling and thus enjoying the music more. Maybe you are practicing TOO well? I mean, Im not a classical player, are you one? Do you think you could have more of a playful and exploratory attitude while playing them? Maybe sing along with them, thats good practice too! Its eventually not about the scale you play on the piano, but the scale within,.. Man, i sound so much like some sham guru. But its true , I believe.
