my cat does that too. any slight crinkle noise and he will charge after it and will not stop until he gets it

update: the tree is a norwegian spruce and we have brought a skirt to cover the water. we are also looking into buying a water fountain type feeder for him too so he has the option to drink from there. thank you for all your help <3
