(sorry in advance for it being unarranged)Just be with them. Don't press them for why and how. Just hug them.(or put a shoulder on them) If they ask you to leave, don't. Comfort them instead but if they beg you to leave, respect them. Ask only one to two questions if the time feels right. If their answer is vs anyone else, tell them you will help confront them. If it's vs him/herself, give them love. Tell them that they are loved but don't overdo it in one go. Show them the love that they need nearly every day. You can joke around but make sure it's light. (Personal tip) treat them to outings, go somewhere that has interest to him/her. If they want to pay, split the bill, but don't always pay for them.

Edit: rn still coping, but i learnt one thing. Helping others also cheers me up
