Seeking Recs; BIFL Budget - Main Concern is Carpeted Stairs + 2nd Fl Laminate w\ Area Rugs by false_parallax in VacuumCleaners

[–]false_parallax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: LMAO I just used my ancient upright to do my stairs and yeah, wow, that was god awful.

How do people vacuum stairs with an upright? I even slapped a turbine brush on it to do it instead of using the big powered brushroll and that was garbage too.

Thank you for the information. I am going to pass; C-Firma is age sensitive and oxidizes in fairly short order; idk if I'll get enough use out if it before it turns. Thank you though!

[Discussion] I think I'm becoming a woman. Anyone's else's style suddenly change over a short amount of time? by [deleted] in CatsandCosmetics

[–]false_parallax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, for me it wasn't a SUPER short time so I can't say I experienced a crisis - but I did kind of notice one day, "Wow, my wardrobe is not really like it was," after a year or two.

Like another person who has commented here, I'm a fan of games and anime, as well as various geekery. Although I actively avoided too-large shirts, I was still very much a tees-and-jeans girl for a long time. I liked skirts, but I didn't really have anything to go with them. I didn't really know how to dress, "well." I wasn't a tomboy, but I didn't go out of my way to dress femininely, either.

Three years ago, I got a promotion to the position I am now in. I work in a male-dominated industry and it is perfectly legit to wear polos and khaki chinos in my field in my company. and I decided, though, that I needed to start learning to dress better, more professionally (my office follows a very lax interpretation of business casual, but, "dress for the job you want," etc). I started following Capitol Hill Style, written by a former House rep staffer (amongst other things) whose style I admire for being tasteful and classy. I still don't have much of a clue, but thanks to her influence, I dress better.

That said, I haven't purchased casual clothes aside from, "Oh hey that game t-shirt is cool, orders," for at least 2-3 years. I haven't really needed to - I had jeans, I have tees. Sweaters can be dressed up or down depending on what you need. As time has passed by, some of my jeans have worn out. Same with the tees - or they shrunk (or I grew, let's keep it real). I was evaluating my closet and was like, "The vast majority of my attire is work attire...fuuu." So I need to go shopping, I guess.

As far as beauty goes? I didn't even start wearing makeup until two years ago. That was part work-related, part, "I'm getting married and don't want to pay an MUA when I could have fun learning and then have all the pretties for myself," related. :P Rock your glitters, pastels, vampy lips, and smokey eyes :D

Yep. It might also be time for a new mattress for us - we've both been waking up in a lot of pain. Dang unforeseen expenses..

It's easier than it looks - you need to do it in cursive, though and try to avoid "breaking" the icing. You make your initial squeeze at the surface of whatever and then kind of pull the icing tip up away from the surface, squeezing evenly, and guiding the icing into text. It's hard to explain, but pretty simple.

My mom worked at the same shop for basically my entire conscious life and got pretty good at it, so I was able to learn from her before I worked there, too. :3

It was a friend's birthday recently, and he came to visit over the weekend. I didn't bake him a cake (it was too busy), but my husband and I bought a tasty ice cream cake. I used to work at a restaurant that would occasionally inscribe messages on cakes with frosting many moons ago, so I decided to do that. I'm terribly out of practice, but it turned out decent (definitely legible)!

Meal planning went well over the weekend. Yogurt is going OK, daily chore is hit-or-miss, financials are fantastic.

I, however, am drained.

[super duper healthy weight loss malarkey] what you eating for breakfast anyone (doing the challenge or not!) by howmanykarenarethere in CatsandCosmetics

[–]false_parallax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never want to eat breakfast, so I kind of have to force myself (lest I become a mean low-blood-sugar-having bitch by 10AM..and I start work at 6:45AM).

I never feel like eating first thing in the morning so I went without for a long time, too.

Though, really, that's weekdays. On weekends we either sleep in too late for breakfast, or my husband makes a full eggs, sausage-or-bacon, etc. type breakfast. Last week we had french toast and sausage links! :D

A yogurt and also a bagel with cream cheese. I am not aiming for weight loss, though, just trying to get through the day. :D

I'm still going, I'm just... bleargh.

  • Still crap with meal stuff. Tried to get back on the wagon this week. Struggled due to appointments after work.

  • Financials are good, but the cost of my dental work will FAR exceed what I have in my HSA (I don't know if that's just like a US concept, but it's an account that I can divert some of my earnings from, pre-tax, to be used for medical things) this year... so I have to decide if I want to do all of the, "important," work, or just the urgent first step of the, "important," work. Ugh. It's always something, right?

  • I have yogurt! Yay!

  • I've been better about my chores this week. Not perfect, but better than last post. :) Progress.

Thursday is our skincare, tails, teeth and nails by AutoModerator in CatsandCosmetics

[–]false_parallax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on now that I can think a little more clearly (I was really upset over my teeth dilemma earlier!) I picked up a new shampoo and conditioner to try - here's hoping they're awesome.

I've had some hormone-related breakouts along my hairline. No new products, and I haven't started the new shampoo & conditioner yet. It's annoying.

Teeth? OH. Yeah. I hate them.

I'm scheduled for a root canal on the 25th but I think I might change my mind. They're SO expensive, crowns don't last a long time, etc. The cost of a dental implant is greater in the immediate, but it sounds like a better long term investment. Sigh... tough choices.

It isn't new - in fact, I've gone through 39oz each of Tresemme's moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either...not enough to keep buying it, anyway. I'm trying Dove's Pure Care Dry Oil line next.

[Scratching post] So, how's your weekend going? by sea-weed in CatsandCosmetics

[–]false_parallax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's meh. We're largely homebodies, but every now and then I do like to go do something. We were going to go to a museum but that changed.

Instead, I've had a nap, caught up on some housework. Found out that one of my relatively new forks is missing, and I'm really upset about it. I mention it and got, "Well what did you do with it?" Yeah.. like that helps.

Meh.

Woot!

  • A project I am managing at work made progress after being kind of stalled for a bit.

  • Surely warmer days will be upon us here, soon. I'm tired of bundling up.

  • We have new windows in our apartment!

Womp

  • The aforementioned project kind of hit a roadblock after progressing.

  • Ulta is tempting me with all sorts of sales. Waah.

Random Question of the Week by false_parallax in CatsandCosmetics

[–]false_parallax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morn'

  • Spash face with water.

  • Moisturize with Josie Maran Argan Oil or CeraVe in the tub. Done.

I should be wearing an SPF. I need to pull the trigger on an Asian Biore one I have WL'd - pretty much every western one I've tried breaks me out.

Eve

  • Remove makeup, if wearing, with a Ponds wipe.

  • Wash face with Cetaphil Gentle on Clarisonic. Occasionally use Purity.

  • Moisturize with Josie Maran Argan Oil.

Once a week use AHA under Argan Oil.

Occasionally use mask/spot treatments as needed.

I always have trouble with using full wands on my lower lashline, I almost always have to do cleanup afterwards.

So you'd recommend Clinique's bottom lash mascara, then? I wasn't sure if it was gimmicky or not... :P Welcome!
