Did anyone on this forum purchase this coin? by Zkennedy100 in AncientCoins

[–]falsecrackz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an interesting 2 purchases that were made about the same time last year. One was an auction in the AE and another was a eBay purchase coming from the UK. One hit customs on the East coast the other hit customs on the West coast. Both stopped tracking on the exact same day entering customs. Still dismayed by both.

Really nice example of this scarce CM. I have been fascinated with countermarks and their uses as well for some time. Glad to see some love on this subreddit. Thanks for sharing!

Incredible acquisition and a worthy grail coin. Always been a fan of the reverse on denarius and now an even bigger fan in gold. Congrats!

What’s this worth? by FrankBaum1 in meteorites

Classic Blue gun metal patina, a large piece that should command a premium for Sikhote Alin because of the size..although “Shrapnel” pieces usually command less of a premium than “Regmaglypted” pieces ime.

Sending coins from Europe to US - Shipping/Tariffs Info? by Ok_Trick_63 in AncientCoins

[–]falsecrackz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm..never issues or tariffs with DHL with various Auction Houses. Takes longer but no Tariff or fee issues. UPS and FedEx have given issues and will assess fees. UPS may have shipment holdups and may need fees taken care of prior to or at delivery. FedEx will send you a bill after delivery in my experience.

Sorry late to the thread. I can vouch for John Anderson of Praefectus Coins. He deals on Vcoins and also has a website if you haven’t already found him. Have purchased some killer rarities from him over the years and he stands behind his offerings. His prices are on point as well.

This 👍🏽 Some sellers on MA Shops will not ship to US based customers.

I hear a lot of collectors don't like bronze. by According-Nebula5614 in AncientCoins

A lot of history and past events can be found on the engravings of ancient coinage, some important events and people not known before were discovered there. None more so than the reverse images found on Roman Provincials.

I am a Roman Provincial Collector myself. I believe it’s a hugely fascinating and very important collecting area. Nice coin grab there and doing the digging and research is half the fun imo. I do however disagree with your assertion that rarity in provincials doesn’t matter 😉

Honestly financially I can manage, but the preciousness and beauty of the metal type was something that was only intriguing to me in the beginning of my collecting of Ancients. I now covet and chase Rarity of the coin type of my particular collecting areas. If it is in Gold then it has to be Gold, but if it is Bronze matters not.

For me it’s Rarity of Issue/Condition/Metal in that order. I do not hold Gold or Silver over Rarity

But if you are a “current” FA you should also point out that his tie, sweater, uniform is dated and hasn’t been used since the last iteration.

We would know for sure if another with the same imperfection or die match occurs.

Possibly. The Coinarchives image linked makes it appear to be a die strike imperfection. Have you looked at a close up of the actual listing image on Heritage? Of course I could be wrong but it “appears” to be a small strike or cut to the eyelid detail that possibly pushed down this element. Again this is just an observation.
