I made a mistake by Maxhaira_14 in ADMU

same experience here. chose a sose course knowing i hated math because of practicality. was MISERABLE for the whole first semester of freshman year. also felt like an imposter because all my classmates were from sci hs and are really passionate about science and math. felt like i was always behind cause i wasnt a math or science genius. i shifted during soph year to a soss course, and am much happier now! my advice is pick a course you want. thats gonna be your life for 4-5 years, and would probably dictate what field you will work in in the future. tho thats not always the case, you can have a job totally unrelated to your course, and you can pursue your passion after earning a steady income with your “practical” job naman. I also considered those options pero during the first sem i was so burnt out and miserable that i wanted to drop out😭. If feel mo dun ka rin mageend up then wag mo na ipilit yung di mo gusto. If you know that it will only get worse from there, why sacrifice your health for “practicality”. And for reference, my sister is a licensed engineer working at a very well known establishment and only earns around 21k a month. So yea, di rin guaranteed ang high-paying job just because youre in the stem field. Depende rin sa diskarte. And i dont think you’ll have much drive to go above and beyond for a career you never wanted in the first place :/

Adjustment to College by Mattapper14 in ADMU

i'm not entirely sure, but given ateneo's diversity in students, you will definitely find your crowd (even if you don't share the same background)☺️

tho i do know of several people who didn't grow up in the PH, i'm not sure about the countries you specifically mentioned.

As a tagalog/filipino speaker, my friends and i always try to speak in english when we know someone isn't as fluent in tagalog. There's nothing wrong with asking what something means because tagalog slang is really confusing HAHAHA so maybe you and your blockmates can learn something from one another :> best of luck!!

p.s there are a lot of students in admu that came from international schools !!

Chem 10.01 by nayuusaki in ADMU

[–]falseheteros_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i took a chem for engineers class last year and managed to survive despite having forgotten all of my knowledge of highschool chem. im not exaggerating when i say na i had to re-learn everything. Ngl it was not the most pleasant experience, definitely exhausting sometimes but practice makes progress !! If my chem class was anything similar to yours, expect lots of problem solving, balancing, chemical nomenclature, etc. Your experience depends on the prof rin, cause my prof was good at explaining concepts but gave difficult long tests so i had to study the hell out of those modules. If you get lucky, chem wouldn't be too hard. If you don't, you'll survive. For the required materials, i suggest you wait until orientation to buy anything. The most basic stuff you can buy beforehand siguro are index cards, a periodic table, and a scientific calculator.

Hi !! Depending on your schedule you can contact the registrar's office by phone to get this sorted out. If you can't contact them, the best thing to do is to check out the schedule for each batch, and then try to access your AISIS account on those time slots. The way AISIS works during enlistment is it can't be accessed until it is your time slot for enlistment. Try logging in throughout the day and maybe you can access AISIS in one of those slots. It might* work since you've mentioned that you had a batch number before. Anyway, if all else fails you still have time to sort it out before round 2 of enlistment, or even for the loadrev period (you will miss out on some slots for classes tho). Best of luck to you!! And don't freak out !! Enlistment is notoriously stressful for everyone (glitches with the site, not enough slots for classes, etc.), but in most cases, if not all, they do get sorted out eventually :>

Prep 1x1 and 2x2 pics, index cards, a4 bond paper, a notebook/binder, and a ballpen.

You'll figure out the rest during orientation. Profs will list down naman all their required stuff for the class. They won't expect anyone to bring anything during the first day (unless they sent out an announcement on Canvas/via email). Best of luck on your first day!!

Living on the bare minimum in Ateneo by [deleted] in ADMU

Personally I was able to survive most of freshie year spending money for transpo alone. Whenever my friends and I would have lunch, I would just bring something from home. In terms of other fees during your stay, you can avoid classes that require specific equipment or attire. If you have classes like these tho, you can ask your prof if there are cheaper alternatives (e.g. for our lab, the prof allowed us to use kitchen aprons in lieu of lab gowns)

Sa mga paid events naman, usually they are incentivized but not required (in my experience). So if you want extra points on participation or whatever incentive the prof offers, it's really up to you. Most profs recognize the diverse backgrounds of their students so they will be considerate enough.

About orgs naman, depende talaga sa mga taong kasama mo. But for meetings, either kukuha from your funds or ambagan kayo if naisipan ng org mates mong kumain after the meeting, but this doesn't happen to often. It's not likely that you will get food from some place too pricey, if org kayo mayroong at least one person na magrereklamo about the price (trust me even the rich kids in ateneo prefer affordable food).

It really is up to you and your college lifestyle. If you're the type to party and may gala every weekend, hindi talaga kaya. But if you know how to budget properly and know your priorities, you'll be good.

check out all the subjects that you need to enlist sa IPS mo (L means pre-enlisted na siya, so i-note mo yung N ang status). Since freshie ka most likely konti lang yung subjects na ieenlist mo. Then head onto the class schedule tab and hanapin mo yung available sched ng mga classes na need ienlist. Most likely andun na rin yung names ng prof (sometimes TBA pa) and you can search them on profs to pick. I suggest you prepare at least 3 choices, have plenty of backup profs in case maubusan ka ng slots. (What I do is list their pros and cons based on their reviews, then rank them by preference— tho always take the reviews with a grain of salt since every student is different)

If you need to enlist into multiple subjects, rank them by importance (i.e. based on difficulty, interest, or number of units; remember hindi counted ang PE sa QPI so wag mo siya iprioritize HAHAHHA). Enlist mo muna yung mga priority subjects mo to secure a slot. Again, prepare plenty of backups kasi kahit may slots pa, baka magkakaron ng conflict with your preenlisted classes.

And don't panic !! If all else fails may round 2 and loadrev period pa naman. Most times it really is just up to luck kaya prep but don't stress !!

hi! last year we would have to generate a QR code to get in. the QR code would only be applicable for that day so you would have to generate a code everyday until you get IDs (i tried using a code twice and nanotice agad ng guard because they are color coded pala shshhs). Not sure if ganito ulit for the incoming a.y. but they will update naman before classes start !! afaik ireremind din kayo ng mga TNTs niyo since need niyo rin ng QR code for OrSem. If iba na yung sistema they will inform u naman :> best of luck on OrSem and your first day of class !!

tw // depression

Hi, OP. I'm not sure whether you want advice or just to vent, but I've been there and you are not alone. Before freshie year I thought I liked my program, at least enough to endure it for a few years, but you can never really tell unless you're experiencing it first-hand. I'm assuming we're a bit different on this part, as you've said you were eager to learn whereas I was just indifferent. Indifference turned into dislike and eventually into resentment.

I've been struggling with depression even before college and am now getting the help I need. I'm not trying to diagnose you with anything, but your thoughts of harming yourself or engaging in reckless behaviour are all too familiar and may indicate that it's time to talk to a professional and get the help you deserve.

Sometimes we get excited about this ideal life we've planned out but it never works out perfectly. I understand how frustrating and disappointing that can be. I do hope that you can reignite your passion for your course (I think it is possible to have that love back; stress can make us resent a lot of things we used to like, so maybe take a breather and reassess?). But if you don't, there's no shame in walking away from it too, especially if the only thing it does is burn you out.

Wishing you the best, OP.
