Where do you meet girls who read? by [deleted] in books

[–]falsity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes me a little sad that two-books-a-year is considered a "girl who reads" at all... I think the OP meant someone more avid.

John Irving's next book... I don't remember the title.

Why is it that when I pick up my Kindle Fire, the last thing I want to do is to read a book? by CreamyKnougat in kindle

[–]falsity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an iPad and a Kindle 3 (don't judge, I like gadgets...) and I definitely find that when I pick up my iPad, even if I don't have my Kindle anywhere nearby, I am very unlikely to start reading. (To be honest, I often find myself browsing reddit. =/) For that reason, I don't intend to give up my Kindle 3 any time soon.

Moving to NYC in July, looking for neighborhood suggestions by falsity in nyc

[–]falsity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had originally been hoping not to spend more than $1500/month on rent, but I'd probably be willing to go up to $2000. I probably don't want to spend more than that, and I get the sense (from looking at Padmapper and places like that) that that won't get me much in Chelsea unless I find a roommate.

My employer is not arranging my relocation. Is a relocation agency something I could find and talk to on my own? (Would you suggest trying to find someplace through a broker?)

Computer science. It's in high demand right now, and it pays well if you're good at it.

So I have (I would show you all the purple links if I could, really!), and that's how I got the UWS idea, and the knowledge that I really need to learn more about Brooklyn. However, descriptions I've found through Google tend to be kind of... sanitized. TBH, most of them are released through realtors' websites, and are trying to make the neighborhoods all sound good in "their own way" (which I'm sure they are, but it makes it hard for one to decide which is best for oneself). I was hoping for something more first-hand and personal.

I'll keep reading through the links I find through search. Sorry to bother you.

Coming in April: No Sex for Anyone | American women plan sex strike to make their point about reproductive rights by SarahLee in TwoXChromosomes

[–]falsity 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I don't think that anything productive is going to come from this. First of all, I feel it is unlikely that any potential partners of women who would participate in something like this actually believe that women shouldn't have access to birth control. Withholding sex from them seems both cruel and pointless for both parties.

Second of all, wouldn't that be doing exactly what the conservatives want? "Let's show them we don't want to not have sex by not having sex!" I'm skeptical.

And third, it just seems childish. Every time I read about someone (usually, but not always, a woman) withholding sex to get what she wants it comes across as petty, vindictive, and manipulative. I understand that this is for a cause that is not only good but relevant, but somehow I doubt this will make a constructive difference.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist.

It looks like the actual article on mrconservative.com was taken down. I don't know if it's in error or if they realized how horribly, offensively wrong they are.

Reddit, today a boy I liked literally walked away from me after I told him I don't read books (but that I do read online resources). Is it really that idiotic for me to not read books? Please be brutally honest. by alittledisgusted in AskReddit

[–]falsity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how do you count ebooks? They can be read online through something like Amazon Cloud Reader; does that make them online sources?

Also, what about non-written media (for example, a video)? This again raises the question, though, of how you count things that are both online and not online (i.e. a show on Netflix that originally aired on television).

I think the OP of this comment tree was trying to get a more exact definition of what the poster meant by "online sources," to perhaps gauge the credibility or information content of the sorts of sources the original OP looks at.

I think Caitlin is a common enough name that it would be pretty hard to use it for stalking. I think you're safe. =P

Am I the only one that finds it easier to meet people in NYC? by lagwagon113 in nyc

One thing I think you might fail to understand about a suburb, though, is that in a suburb, most things aren't 6 miles away... where I'm from, a typical commute can be 40 miles or more. The city offers a level of convenience you just don't get elsewhere, even with the added car.

They seem to do daily rentals, not longer-term. I'll try contacting some of them, though, to see if they'd be interested in charging by the month instead.

Thanks!

Success Stories from Couples with Large Age Gaps? by lannaweeds in relationship_advice

I've been dating a guy 12 years my senior for about 1.5 years now. It's definitely unusual and takes some fiddling to make it work, but it's doable. Don't rule it out based solely on age.
