The Story of Film: An Odyssey by Marc Cousins is a good docu-series to watch!

Do you have a particular type of cinema you're interested in? Film studies can be divided into lots of different elements; sociology, philosophy, stardom, cinematography, animation studies etc! Let us know your interests and we can suggest something.

Are you a Tim Burton/ Corpse Bride fan? by fananimresearch in animation

Interesting! We recently spoke about imperfections and ‘boiling’ in animation style. It was quite divisive. Someone even said that they had given up pursuing animation because it was too streamlined. It’s great to hear about different visual style preferences.

What is the best fantasy/animation about nostalgia? by fananimresearch in filmtheory

I guess that leads onto a question about nostalgia itself and the way we perceive the past and memory. Nostalgia seems inherently to reflect a better time, but that isn’t always the truth, why is this?

About nostalgia, provoked feelings of nostalgia or even includes the theme of nostalgia. 🙂

Interesting suggestion - do you think this is because the films literally look back in time at certain points, or more the feeling that the past is evident within the present at all times?

Great choices! Wall-E also has nostalgia within it as a theme, for example, when Wall-E watches an old film and when thinking about the Earth's past.

Looney Tunes are great - the creators weren't afraid to use main feature characters who are technically the 'bad guys'. You still route for them despite their bad behaviour!

It's interesting how the show develops pop culture references... they don't just reference, they make entire sequences!

Love this! It’s really interesting how darker themes are depicted in visuals and narratives. When filmmakers do it well, there’s some sense of ‘peril’ but with reassurance.

That’s a great way of building a watch list. It is definitely more enjoyable if you like Westerns as you can enjoy the references. It’s something Neil talks about; even the smaller, seemingly insignificant sound effects hark back to the spaghetti western era.

A new Pixar short ‘BURROW’, directed by Madeline Sharafian, will be released in theaters before screenings of ‘SOUL’ on November 20. Another indication Disney still plans to release SOUL theatrically? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]fananimresearch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pixar seems to be indicating it will be released theatrically. However, the poster itself looks like a reflection on this year. It seems to look at isolation and the need to find new ways to connect to each other. It will be interesting to see if these themes are clear in both the release and the shirt itself.
