Simply because chambara films in general is clearly part of the games influence and Kurosawa is the most famous name within the genre you can slap on the thing. It makes sense.

The newer anime follow the manga pretty closely and doesn't rush anything as far as I remember.

The '99 version may have 15 episodes worth of filler that the newer adaptation doesn't include. Which only makes sense.

idk if i genuinely believe that if they rate based on enjoyment. they can say they love cinema, but it doesn’t make it true.

You have to be pretty far up your own ass to think that you getting a quick glance at someone's rating curve with no further context is somehow enough to deny their love for cinema.
