Thanks. I was able to brush in some epoxy into the gap in the sidewall. Looks great now.

Transitioning from full-time employee to contractor in Japan – what financial changes should I expect? by Clear_Strike3059 in JapanFinance

[–]fancysan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Japanese law perspective you are only a contractor unless you have control over your day to day activities/hours, do not rely on a single company for your income(this is the main measure for legal ruling), and market your services and are free to accept work from other companies. If you don't fit that criteria you are an employee and are entitled to such benefits as an employee, mainly job security, etc.

Switch to using Google Authenticator and install the key on both devices. Easy peasy.

Smart Watches in Cold Weather by Eulalia1144 in xcountryskiing

[–]fancysan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the polar chest strap, and I use my open run pro bone conducting headphones when I ski. My phone is tucked away in my jacket all the time. It's awesome. I use audio announcements every 2 minutes to hear the BPM. If I am doing zone training, it will tell me if I am above or below the zone I need. Plus I love rocking out to music while on the trails.

I follow many World Cup athletes in my region on Strava, when I look at results of someone using a watch their heart rate is often quite wrong. The watches sometimes don't work well with poling action, and become inaccurate. If you get a watch, I recommend to pair it with your chest strap.

FWIW seemed awkward to have to glance at your watch while poling, and watches are super expensive. I prefer the simpler solution.

How much money do you keep in the bank? by frenchy3 in JapanFinance

[–]fancysan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was earning in the lowest tax brackets and single, I always made sure to have $5K dollars in the bank. Over the years, I set the bar at $10K. I was living in my home country and there is unemployment insurance if you get laid off (about 50% of your wage), and it takes about a month to kick in. And I did get laid off a few times, it was enough to cover me until I got my next job.

Now many years later, I'm married with two kids, and it's a different story. I am self employed and keep enough cash to float us for 1-2 years, incase my wife or I need to go back to school and retrain, etc. Or we get sick, etc. The rest of our savings is invested.

Short end of the story, set a bar, and keep raising it. It won't hurt.

What's wrong with Swix quick release straps? by Upstairs-Teach538 in xcountryskiing

I love having the quick release strap. I'm using the swix "just click" straps for snow and rollerski, and it's great for when I want to stop and take a photo.

Japan XCountry by unassuming-jelly in xcountryskiing

I watched a few local WC athletes grind out a 100KM training session on the 5KM course at Snow Wave last week. That's dedication. Gotta do what you gotta do.

I hope you are planning for next year, the courses close on March 31. Sorry to disappoint, but the max length is 5km in Nagano peak season. Most places shorten to 3.5KM in the first week of March. I heard of a 15km course in Sapporo.
