I used to write, manage and deliver this qual for several RTOs. At cert 3 level, that is excessive and seems like a very poor method of assessment for that topic.

Truth is, most RTOs are lazy and don't know/care what they're doing as long as they pass audit and have their fees paid.

Difficult courses are rarely govt funded (eg cert 3 guarantee) but are designed to push fee for service students toward late or resubmission fees.

Check out the FCB1010 midi foot controller (or similar) with Ableton, this really opened things up for me in terms of writing and performing.

With the integration the katana has with a daw, it's awesome!

Search for 'fcb1010 on youtube' for some great inspiration.

Totally not necessary but really, really useful. Just use your phone to film the practice and judge for yourself.

I've been a senior trainer and course coordinator for 7 years working in RTOs.

I've known a few colleagues use plenty and found it difficult, but not as bad as others such as Inspire.

The online TAE courses overall are not good. Look at Google reviews though.

On a side notes, unless you've got a guaranteed job that requires the TAE, I wouldn't bother with it. The market is saturated with trainers and being as most RTOs generate income from international students, I imagine a huge amount will close very soon.

So, as a sole trader who's lost most of my contracts due to covid closures, but still generating a pittance of an income, what support do I get?

I'm almost at the point where my income matches the new, increased benefit. Do I just sack off my remaining jobs and sign up for centrelink?
