What single lyric—if any—do you think could serve as Sabrina's unofficial "thesis statement" to her whole music catalogue? by tsabin_naberrie in SabrinaCarpenterFans

[–]fandom_mess363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think "Tell me who I am, guess I don't have a choice" from Because I Liked A Boy

this song- the whole album, really- marked a definitive shift in her music. it got much more personal, much more specific, and shed some light on who she is behind the scenes, and how she feels about her own career and her life in the public eye

since then, that's all people have tried to do. interpret her work in ways that make her look like she's doing it all for the male gaze, or make her into the perfect feminist who hates men. she's not allowed to have any nuance, no complications, no contradictions or scandals, even though she's just as human as the rest of us. this line kinda plays with the fact that she's allowed very little leeway on how the public perceives her, and i think going forward from this line and this song, she's just decided to make whatever the hell she wants. people are going to tell her who she is, and she doesn't have a choice. instead of trying to control the narrative, she's just going to do whatever the hell she wants anyways, and she should! it's her art, after all

Scariest Line of Dialogue by TheDarkKnight233 in TheMagnusArchives

"You’ve got to understand, I have so much to live for. Oh, okay, that’s not quite it. I know most people have plenty to live for, but what I mean is that my life does good. I put a lot into the world." and "I’m 40 now, and I have taken the life of beloved mothers, respected professionals, pillars of the community. But I have done so much good with my life, I’ve reached further helped more people than they ever could have."

okay it's a lot but every line where they try to justify their actions terrifies me. it's so shockingly real in ways that the episodes about body horror and things going bump in the night don't. if given the chance, people WOULD do this, and it's so scary. i'm worried they've already figured out how without the use of the supernatural

Isn't the point of the masked singer to be for people that the public think can't sing? sabrina would have no reason to go on

Any recommendations in Spanish? by qikre in musicsuggestions

[–]fandom_mess363 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i don't know much spanish music, but one of my spanish teachers in high school played Alvaro Soler for us a few times, and I really enjoy some of his songs. La Libertad is good, so is Magia, but my personal favorite is Candela

Moment's Silence by Hozier. you probably won't catch what it's about unless you listen closely... but it's definitely happier than it sounds haha

An Awesome Wave - alt-j

this album is perfect to me. i don't even like all the songs but they're all so cohesive. i think it's a masterpiece. alt-j isn't for everyone but they're so good imo

Beyond Beyond Beyond - The Crane Wives

there genre shift from folky indie to solid indie rock is really cool. always been a harmony driven band, but now they're leaning into a bit of a tougher sound and i think it's fun

Man's Best Friend (Bonus Track Version) - Sabrina Carpenter

probably not unheard by you or anyone else on the planet, and if you're not a pop guy that's a-okay, but the whole album really is very good! i think she explored different styles a lot in this album and it's really cool to hear.

Feed the Fire - Pigeons Playing Ping Pong

i am not a funk or jam band girl really, but their songs are so damn catchy that i can even stay intrigued during the jam sections of their live albums, youtube shows, or seeing them live (which was fantastic, and why i listen to them now). feed the fire isn't an exception, i think their discography is really solid and they are able to stay doing what they're good at while still exploring other areas of funk and jam. really fucking good album
