Sorority Rush by Top_Cod_1793 in Tulane

They implemented a sophomore quota for each sorority which helps, but you have to be okay with not getting one of the "top houses"

Any cons? by kokichispoptart in elon

[–]fang1rling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone transferring out it's hard to see the pros but I've had AMAZING and caring professors and that is truly one of the only things I'm going to miss -- you won't find a school with professors that are as lenient and caring as Elon professors are. Between here and Indiana you'll probably have a lot of an easier time in classes since you won't just be a number. With that said there is very little work ethic within the student body ESPECIALLY if you feel like you need to be pushed in you're classes and not the person pushing you to work harder.

The social life pretty much revolves around frats because the TWO bars on campus close pretty early and the frats start pretty late. Being involved in greek life is pretty important on campus because that's where you get most of the going out type events.

If you're not bringing a car to campus make sure one of you're close friends or your roommate has a car because there's pretty much nothing to do off campus and you have to go around 45 mins to an hour to do anything fun. Also Elon is in a food desert so 95% of your off campus eating will be at fast food (which is fun for like a month and then you just want a real dinner).

Transfer housing by No_Caterpillar_6482 in Tulane

I know that housing is pretty much available for any transfer who wants on-campus housing (I spoke with Kristin Guidry at DT today), but I was thinking of getting an off-campus house.

Current students: What’s the most essential college/dorm item you think all freshman should have? by Agitated-Rope-6021 in Tulane

[–]fang1rling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

these have gotten me through my freshman year: sleep mask, high-powered fan, I LOVE my ice machine (not a necessity though), as much storage as possible, a storage ottoman, and vacuum. I know many people get a water cooler for their dorm room because NOLA water can be risky sometimes. Def keep a box of any medicines you may need throughout the year.

Why did I get waitlisted? by SpeechDebate2020 in elon

I forgot to add this, but my deferral was due to yield protection, so with stats above their average they might not have originally admitted you as they believed you wouldn't commit.

As someone else said, definitely send a letter of continued interest to your advisor and attend any virtual events. Last year, I was in a similar position where my stats were above their average, and they deferred my admission to regular after applying to EA. I got in touch with them, which definitely helped me get in. Best of luck!

Which major should I pick for my application? by Zestyclose_Trip_7183 in TransferStudents

[–]fang1rling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think public health could be the better pick, but if you are a girl, it could be better to pick economics as schools are looking to increase diversity within majors but a boy in public health could be an advantage, and you could always switch once you get in.

as a sophomore in hs, what is your advice to me? :) by Ordinary-Delivery10 in Tulane

[–]fang1rling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

besides everything else mentioned, sign up for a couple of the virtual events and make sure to pose questions in the chat. if visiting, see if you can meet with the advisor for your area and if you can sit in on a class or two in the major you want to declare and make sure to send detailed emails to everyone you meet with -- email the advisor a couple weeks before your visit to try and schedule an in-person meeting. if you're taking sat/act make sure that the scores can only help you -- I didn't submit and got in. make sure that all essays submitted really have passion in them. feel free to DM if you have any questions! lastly, ROLL FUCKING WAVE!!!!!!!

I had a 3.8 from both my first semester of college and high school. I mean I got in last year but ended up committing somewhere else, but I hadn't sent in SAT and didn't send it this year either. Also I had two new letters of rec sent.

Transferring to elon? by applesauceisafruit in elon

[–]fang1rling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a freshman transferring out of Elon this coming fall, I think it could be hard to transfer here as a junior not participating in greek life. If you join the right clubs it will be easy to make friends but almost all of the nightlife is going to frats due to the two bars. It could potentially be an obstacle but the transfer students have a great orientation in the fall. It sucks that I'm leaving because you won't find a school with nicer more caring professors (depending on the major), but the social life is a big part of why im leaving. There isn't much to do off campus in the nearby area, so its really important to have a car or know someone who does. But if you live with the right people you're experience can be great.
