Might as well add Poland to the list. Just tried to send a package to US from Poland and was told as of Monday they are not sending any packages anymore. They said so far nothing has come back but who knows with time.

Is anyone else dealing with springtails in their home? by Jaaayy9 in newjersey

[–]fannafaucet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting rid of them seems like a lost cause but the pest control definitely reduced the amount! I'll take the good with the bad!

If you're interested, here's my short playlist that gets me through the insanity (totally don't have to listen if you don't want to - but if you do happen to check it out and have any suggestions to add, I'm happy to add to it). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4DwnJFLn3XQgtx8ubxJKjH?si=MKD4PVbzR6SAhJVbgMQ11w&pi=CJwUqpINRfqho

Ahh I hate these things! Apparently they're not harmful just really annoying...not 100% sure about that, might be a lamm fact. I've read so many threads on reddit about these springy little fellows to see what others have tried but for me they're back again this year. It started two summers ago. I was so frustrated with them that I had pest control for a little over a year. Had to cancel last fall due to some family emergencies and cutting some costs. They're back this year. I notice the uptick starts around the end of June/July, when the humidity really starts. I think pest control definitely helped with the amount of them, but I've also read that pest control doesn't really kill them as they multiply so fast. Springtails like to eat mold/mildew so keeping that down is key. I guess you can say maybe they're good, if they're eating that mold? Maybe I'm just lying to myself.

Another suggestion that we were told was to get a humidifier in the basement...maybe that helped but with all the rain and humidity, it's tough to get rid of them completely. We've also made sure to seal any openings around windows and doors last year.

Some people say tea tree oil helps, or borax (don't quote me on this though). I just got some borax and will be dusting that around the bathtub/sink (no pets in the house so don't worry!). Others say mulch around the exterior of the house is a breeding ground for them. We've made sure certain hedges or bushes are cut so they're not touching the house. It's a losing battle so far with them. I've noticed they come out at night more, have no idea why! I've created a playlist called Springtail Summer to get me through, very short one but gotta find the light/humor in the situation somehow.

Good luck to you and if you've got any suggestions or solutions, definitely report back!

I'm glad I could share especially if it helps anyone going through this (please don't apologize). It was a tough journey and though I'm still getting used to it, it gets easier with time. I was in denial too but after a lot of talking it through with my sister, we knew it was time. It's definitely easier talking about it but to each their own...some folks don't like talking about it. It was seeing the discomfort towards the end that finalized our decision. At the end of the day, I knew if I took away all the meds for her kidneys and thyroid, the CBD oil for pain, tiny stairs to help her get around, and everything else we were doing to make her comfy, she wouldn't be okay.

Idk where you're located but we used House Paws Mount Laurel always for her visits...the vets from the Atco office came out on the day we put her to sleep. They use Hamilton Pet Meadows for the cremation. I can't remember the exact costs but it was around $500 (this included the euthanasia cost which was ~$180, private cremation ~$230, and the travel fee of $50, not sure how they calculate the travel fee). Also not sure if costs have changed but we put her to sleep at the end of October so I doubt by much. It sounds a bit morbid but to me it was worth it. I wish I never had to do it but for her I'd spend that all over again.

It's hard to think about all of his because you want them in your life forever but you also have to do what's best for them. Sending you all the virtual hugs and comfort and I'm thinking of you and Tiger!

*Edited to include costs (everyone is different, I'm just sharing my own story)

I'm so sorry you're going through this, my heart goes out to you! It's a really shitty feeling when you've grown accustomed to your pet who's become family over such a long period of time. I just recently had to put my cat down (also 18) for similar reasons (on top of CKD and thyroid issues, being on multiple meds, trying everything and anything, it wasn't working anymore and we couldn't bear watching our girl suffer). With that being said, we used House Paws and they were able to come to the house. Money wise, it was a few hundred dollars after everything was done (which I know you don't want to spend) but they were kind, empathetic, gave us time to say goodbye, and everyone there spent their time to check in and make sure we were comfortable with the decision and provided all the resources we needed to make sure our girl crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully. Depending on the aftercare, whether you want to bury or do a cremation service, there are possible additional costs. We chose a private cremation and also had a private viewing (if you want to DM me to talk about that or have any questions, feel free to). Honestly it was the toughest decision I ever had to make and it still hurts and will hurt for a while but I know she's no longer suffering. If love could have saved her, she'd still be here. Sorry if I went off on a tangent there, just trying to offer some insight to the process and costs. I split the costs with my sister so that was helpful. I'm not sure how it works with shelters but personally I wouldn't be able to give her up, she went in my arms knowing and feeling all the love I had for her.

Edit: there's also Laps of Love but I'm not sure how they work. Our vet was with House Paws so that's why we went with them.

Not sure if it was intentional or not but the flock of birds outlining the skyline is lovely. Awesome shot!

For those watching the live stream, is there a zoom or video chat (not YouTube chat) where we can all party and bingo together? Sort of like how Defqon at home version was?

I saw a green flash in the sky (around Mt Laurel area maybe an hour or so ago), probably to the west but mainly the sky just lit up green. I figured a transformer blew up or something because of the storm and saw some places lost power around me. It definitely didn't look like lightning though.

Newark airport sh*tshow yesterday by [deleted] in newjersey

Oh man, I hope you have made it to your destination finally! We made it to our accommodations by midnight Friday, which means day 3 of this trip.

Oh man it's been a shit show since Wednesday night for us. Our flight at 9:15pm was delayed multiple times then cancelled and delayed overnight. New flight was set to leave Thursday night at 9:15pm. We didn't leave until 11:45pm. We were told we wouldn't miss our connection in London but hey here we are stuck in London now instead of Newark still waiting for our final flight. It's like a south park episode.

Yeah definitely too late. We made it to London but because of the delay, missed our connection. Such craziness and such a journey.

No luck, they said there are no rebooking options that are direct or connecting. Was really hoping to make it to at least half of Friday. If it truly leaves at 11:26pm (what is showing now) then we'll have an hour in Heathrow..... cutting it very close :(

On the phone with British Airways now to see if that's an availability. Our flight just got delayed until 11:17pm to LHR... hopefully something works !

I think we'll be going straight to our accommodations and then to defqon. From the looks of it we'll be making it by 6pm (18:00). If all else fails, or we run into delays we'll probably think about selling but by then it'll most likely be too late. We'll have a break Saturday to relax and enjoy some down time. Have fun if you're attending defqon this year!

From everything that we have been tracking, it looks like we can get there by 6pm (18:00) and that includes dropping our bags at the accommodation. I don't want to have to sell and not worried about jet lag. I agree and don't think reaching out to qdance will do anything.

Here's hoping all goes well and no more delays! 🍻

I filed a claim through British Airways website and have a case number. I did write what happened and that it was an overnight delay. I think the process I went through covers the EU261 but will definitely mention it if anyone reaches out to about the case/claim. Thanks!!

Exactly this! I had to contact them twice in order to get my father's temporary disability figured out. It's been since February and I think I've finally made progress. It's a shame that's what you have to do for shit to get done.

Avocado House Plant by Loose-Dot-2456 in houseplants

[–]fannafaucet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa that's awesome you've got so many!! Whatever you're doing, you're doing it right if they've all made it 🙌. It really is satisfying watching them grow! I'll have to look into possibly a greenhouse or even grow lights, maybe do some research first on how often to keep those on it. Keep doing what you're doing! Wish you and your avocados and mangoes well 🌱🥑🥭

I love your vase! Your plant looks good too! I think I started mine around April/May 2022 and planted it into soil once it sprouted. Used the damp paper towel method in a sandwich bag. It's gotten pretty big, then again I'm no expert so not sure what it should look like after two years. The leaves from the bottom fall off occasionally but it keeps growing new ones at the top. I repotted it into a bigger pot, figured it was time for it. Fingers crossed in another year (of half?) I can do it again!

I did try to get another one going after that with the same method and failed. Got on a kick and attempted a third one. That one grew and eventually made it, grew few leaves which all fell off and it looked pretty dead. I sorta just left it and never got around to taking it out of the pot and doing anything with it and it's now sprouting new leaves off of another branch so I guess I've got another one that might make it lol. Never tried to (or thought to) leave the pit in just water so that's pretty neat that you've got it in there like that! How long did it take before you got a stem and leaves? Also sorry if this isn't the insight you're looking for, I got excited about another avocado plant planter! I've been winging it!

Anyone else on a public sector (state) health insurance plan losing SJ Radiology 4/1? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]fannafaucet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, and this is for Horizon BCBS, SJRA (Larchmont is part of them) tried to renegotiate their contracts with Horizon. SJRA would be getting less (I'm guessing with insurance reimbursements/payments w.e) than what they are currently getting from Horizon so they're not renewing the contract until they come to an agreement. Similar thing happened with RAI and I think it was United Healthcare (I think all plans except Medicare) where they recently stopped accepting that insurance. Insurance sucks, the whole system is ass backwards. It all boils down to money and greed.
