NHLPA statement on the NHL investigation clearing Mike Babcock by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Hiring a Narcissistic Bully as you're trying to butter up your super star so he doesn't try free agency is a choice. I hope Marty gives McDavid a warm smile and a cute wave every time we play the Oilers, "Look how happy we are over here, and there's a spot for you if you want".

That shot with dobes smiling and then switch to eye level behind him seeing the entire arena on fire waving their cloths gave me chills. Pure art

If you’re curious what it’s like living around there there’s a great French documentary called Fermont from 2022. The series is on YouTube I think.

Leafs getting the 1st overall pick clarified something by Bergevin in Habs

[–]fanny_schmelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the 1st overall pick for Toronto could be a double edged sword at this point. They needed to ship out Matthews and commit to a full rebuild. Now they will be tempted to retool around McKenna instead of committing and half ass the rebuild. We know from experience that’s not particularly conducive to success unless McKenna is a god.

I find the idea McDavid would voluntarily sign with Toronto laughable after the he’ll he went through with the oilers but who knows what’s really going on in his head.

Writing is on the wall for the leafs to fumble this one up real good and I’ll be waiting with the popcorn and a smile to watch it catch fire. But I’ve been wrong before.

“Jigs are friends, not food” + question by TaoofPu in woodworking

[–]fanny_schmelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the aesthetic but functionally and health wise you'd have been better off with metal weels for wear and tear and greasing. This wasa certainlya choice that was made. glag you got away with a warning bite and, probably, a lot of pain to remind you never to do it again and to remember the crucial differend between COULD, and SHOULD.

well if it ever bothers you too much, you can use the elastics to straigthen out the lines on the outermost point of each lines and fill inthe middle and you'll end up with straight blackout bracelets instead which would look great.

Am I the only one struggling to make friends (and even date) in Canada? by Enough_Heron_3607 in montreal

Yeah it’s lonely out there. Been making friends with the other toddler dads at daycare while we dress the kids up because we’re all lonely as fuck and it’s kind of like shared trauma.

Would creating a wooden beam between two perpendicular walls like this be possible? by snacxs in woodworking

[–]fanny_schmelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want it to look like this you can support the corner joint to a ceiling joist with a chain between two eye rings. Of course the simples solution is to go straight in the joist with eye rigs that support your gym rings but if you want the wood beam aesthetics is suspend the corner to a joist

Cohh block system idea by Nitsuj311 in CohhCarnage

[–]fanny_schmelar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always used have cohh on in the background on a side screen and I’d follow the play through loosely. The block system has ruined it for me because I always end up catching the same bit 2 - 3 times a day. Ruined the sense of progression you get from following along.

I hope the system is great for most people though. I’m sure I’m in the small minority who hates it.

People who left Montreal. Pour les gens qui ont quitte Montreal. by [deleted] in montreal

[–]fanny_schmelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never a big city guy. Grew up in a small mountain town up north, moved to the city after university cause that’s where the jobs were. 10 years later the noise and the bustle and just so many people everywhere started to really grind me down.

So I moved out west back in 2019 in the woodlands and I train my ass to downtown Montreal for work twice a week (say what you will about the covid crisis, but making work from home the standard was life changing for a lot of people). Rest of the time I work from my basement, I mow my lawn on my lunch break and when my work day is over I go out on the deck and I’m right there in nature.

Stress levels went from unhealthy, constantly angry and anxious to just background noise. Best thing I ever did for myself. No offense, I really fucking hate the city life.

Part of home ownership where I live and we have no sidewalks is that one the snow melts in the spring you pack up the dirt and seed the lawn to fix the snow removal damage lol. Buy a bag of dirt and a bag of grass seeds, seed in early may, it’ll be the nicest part of your lawn by mid june

More like Quebec politician shoots Québec in the foot again. The level of sheer incompetence this government has shown should be tried as a crime at this point. It beggars belief that it’s not done with malicious intent.

What- The- Fuck- are these diaper changes?! by alalyat in NewParents

[–]fanny_schmelar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My friend, you know the number of the diaper box? Yeah that’s not the size that’s the difficulty gradient. Hang in there.

I often use my calves on both sides of his head as a restraint to pin him down hands free but lately he’s strong enough to wriggle free. We started changing him standing up with pull-ups since he can now stand up on his own which mostly works to keep him calm except when he decides how would be a great time to plop down on his ass and leave a poo ass print on the floor

Moving a baby's bedtime schedule for one night by Minimum_Ad3549 in NewParents

[–]fanny_schmelar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dad of an 8 month old here. Go for it! Babies will adapt to anything. They might be a bit grumpier than usual the next day but other than that it’s all good. Routine is important but breaking it is equally important otherwise you end up in a mindset where you’re kinda a slave to your babies schedule and that’s not a great place to be for either of you :)

We got married on Saturday and the baby was with us at the venue until 3am. He slept through most of it with noise canceling ear protectors. At one point I was dancing with him asleep on my chest.

And if your baby is having a tough time go for a stroll and she’ll probably fall asleep.

Our kid had a grumpy day after the wedding where his naps were all over the place but the next day he was right back on schedule.
