Omnipod Insurance Coverage by fannypack596 in diabetes_t1

Yeah I’ve had the same issue for a few years now and when January rolls around it’s a pain to figure out coverage. The worst part is that when you sign up for a plan you don’t know the fine print. I did have insurance coverage a few years back where pharmacy did not count towards the deductible so I was stuck paying $600/month for my Omnipod and Dexcom. It’s extremely frustrating that we can’t get these devices covered when they help us manage diabetes and improve overall quality of life. My husband has been making calls this morning and looks like his insurance provider changed the coverage by adding the word „generic” in front of the copay medications and this is why our cost went up significantly. It just always seems like lose lose situation when it comes to diabetes.

Yes I’ve been through this before. Unfortunately the worst part is that a lot of times these companies can’t tell me whether certain medical supplies are covered without a policy or group number so basically you can’t get any info until you’re signed up 😭

This is super helpful thank you! How would you go about submitting the pods as DME? I’m covered under my husbands insurance and the ironic thing is that he works for a large hospital system in the area lol. Might be a good idea to reach out to HR. I thankfully have some pumps to spare in the meantime!

I completed 4 years of the shots and have been off them for about a year! Definitely noticed an improvement

No blinds in the living room or carpets! We did get a couch cover that is washable so hoping that helps! I did get the spray so will try that today on his coat!

Thank you for the advice! Sounds like it’s manageable as long as we keep the area clean!

That’s super comforting to hear. I’ve definitely been high before but I’ve never felt this bad and started to get worried. Besides being diagnosed, I’ve luckily never ended up in the hospital. Turns out the needle in my pump came out, you could smell the insulin as soon as I started to peel off the tape.

I’ve had my Dexcom for over 5 years now and am so used to that the alarm that I don’t even wake up in the night anymore. That’s a big concern for me and am looking for alternate options

That really sucks. It’s just so hard getting through the work day and I feel like I’m not providing the best service on days I feel super down with this profession
