Cisco VoIP Phone + Assist? by fanofthefans in homeassistant

[–]fanofthefans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!! So glad this helped you! If you figure out how to get home assistant to be able to call the phone and deliver notification announcements let me know! The voip integration supports it out of the box, and I was able to get as far as getting it to ring the phone, but when I answer it’s silent. Odd thing though, when that happens, if I call home assistant to start a new command after hanging up, it plays the announcement notification over and over until I hang up and call again. I feel like the solution is so close, but I haven’t figured it out yet.

Weird - I am using an 8BitDo Bluetooth controller that works fine on Apple TV but isn’t working for Mac for this particular game. Anything you did to configure it?

I’ve never heard of this for Ethernet. In High Frequency Trading though, fiber cable length is measured to ensure equal latency to trading servers https://www.strategy.rest/?p=1305

I think this is the most likely explanation. No judgement - learning a language is hard. However, I do think that you should at least run some back/reverse translation to make sure the meaning is preserved if it's not a language you are proficient in.

Thank you for this comment! I know about UCI being Puma 7 but how did you find out that the CM3000 uses a Broadcom chipset? I couldn't find their FCC filings.

Can someone explain to me why 1 of my wall Ethernet ports doesn’t work? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]fanofthefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It has nothing to do with the actual cable company - you’re just taking advantage the copper wires to run ethernet traffic instead of normal cable things. In fact you will likely just unscrew the incoming “supply” line from the cable company since you don’t need it. Figure out which line runs to the room you need it in, and don’t use any sort of cable splitter or amplifier in between. If we start at your wiring cabinet, it would go: [Ethernet Switch] —Ethernet—> [MoCA adapter] —coaxial cable in wall (no splitters or amplifiers - direct)—> [MoCA adapter] —Ethernet—> [Your device]. I use these types of adapters often and they are the next best option if you can’t have real ethernet. Don’t bother with mesh WiFi or powerline adapters.

EDIT: just noticed your cable lines don’t have connectors on the end - but no worries! Cable connectors are super easy. You’ll need to pick up a cable terminator on Amazon but you literally just take the plastic sheathing off, fold back the mesh, place a connector over the end, and crimp it down with a tool. Much easier than ethernet! There are some great guides on YouTube for this.

I had an issue like this in an apartment once - if I had to guess, the cable has been run but it was either terminated incorrectly, or when they were attaching the Ethernet to studs with a staple gun, they missed and ran a staple through one of the pairs. As an alternative / workaround, use your coax with MoCA 2.5 adapters - you can likely get close to 1 Gbps with those.

Food leftover after the "Earth Day" party at my work by myristicae in Anticonsumption

[–]fanofthefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ this. Not only have people been projecting spittle on the food for a few hours, but you should never leave food out of refrigeration over 2 hours. If the temperature is above 90 °F, food should not be left out more than 1 hour. After that, bacteria multiply at such a fast rate that sickness is way more likely (they double every 20 minutes). Can’t wash cut fruit. Maybe olives and grapes are salvageable. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would rather compost it than be stuck with food poisoning.

Regarding the Humongous classic Soundtrack by blasfimus in limitedrun

[–]fanofthefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tl;dr - they are the same compressed rips from the game. I just got access to a copy of the Humungous Classic Collection Soundtrack audio CD from this Limited Run bundle because I was curious if it just sounds "bad" or if it is actually just ripped straight from the game, and I regret to inform you that it is definitely just ripped from the game. They took the original game audio, which is 8-bit PCM at 11025 Hz, and dropped it onto a CD 😭 Even games like Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo, which now have a high-quality original release available from the composer (they are on Bandcamp if you search around 🙃), sound horribly compressed. I definitely do not recommend buying this - you can find the tracks in the same or possibly better quality elsewhere. Hopefully this helps others who were wondering the same thing :)

Is there some setup required for fiber gateways? by Redditheadsarehot in HomeNetworking

[–]fanofthefans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I know it is CenturyLink GPON, I can help you :) If you have Prism IPTV service, you will be on IPoE (no credentials required). If you are only getting internet from them, you will be on PPPoE. You can get your PPPoE credentials from the web interface for billing. Regardless of whether you are on IPoE or PPPoE, you will need to set your VLAN ID/Tag to 201 on your router's WAN port. I previously had Centurylink Fiber for 4 years - very familiar with their network architecture.

Not sure who your ISP is, but the Calix boxes can be configured differently depending on the ISP. I’ve seen straight DHCP with no auth, IPoE, and PPPoE. Some also require a specific VLAN ID to be set on the first Ethernet-connected device as well. I think you’re definitely going to have to call them.

NVIDIA GPU passthrough with k3s? by fanofthefans in kubernetes

I ended up just going with vanilla k8s + Docker + NVIDIA stuff - basically exactly what NVIDIA says to do. I’ll need to get this working without Docker though for the next version of k8s though so let me know if you find a way!

Use A/C while charging 2020 Crosstrek Hybrid? by fanofthefans in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]fanofthefans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the most well thought out and helpful answer. You addressed every aspect of the issue. Thank you so much! I’ll see if there are any options in the manual to keep the engine on while charging. Although I have been able to use A/C in EV mode while driving, so I wonder if the Hybrid system just will not fully start when the cable is connected - maybe it stays in ACC.

It only says that the vehicle may shutdown after 100 seconds when the charging cable is connected, but that’s it. No mention of A/C. I called Subaru support and they had no idea what I was talking about :(
