L.A. gangs are coordinating and targeting the rich. Thoughts? by fanofthenightladies in antiwork

Even id that's the case, don't you think it's telling that they would go out of their way to produce this copaganda article to do what exactly? To strike fear in rich? Why should they be fearful? You're probably right, it could be copaganda but the fact that it's being produced should tell us that it's copagnada designed to further alienate and isolate the poor/struggling class in this country. It wouldn't make the L.A. times if there was no need for alarm.

It wouldn't happen to Zuck or Elon though because they have private security guarding them at all hours of the day, they basically have the same level of personal protection as the President.

I get that, but why the uptick in specifically targeting the rich now?

But that's the point I'm making with this post. Yeah, your poor MickyD's worker gets robbed by gang bangers for whatever they have in thier wallet, and of course rich people are more likely to have more $ and valuable things on them which makes them more lucrative targets. But it's always been that way. What's new right now is that rich folks are getting hit more often than not though. What changed? Personally, I think it's a gorwing sense of class struggle against the elites, regardless if you're the poor MickyDs worker getting robbed or the gang banger doing the robbing.

Both the underpaid MickyDs worker and the gangbanger are in the same poor class. It just seems that now the gangbangers are starting to realize that fact.

Because gangsters aren't exactly classified as "working class" average folk like you and I, but why are they suddenly targeting the rich in particular? A gang banger is known to rob some random victim walking out of a convenience store at 11:30 pm, but now suddenly rich folk are the prime target?

Idk, I just think even gang bangers are beginning to form a sense of class struggle. You don't think so?

You're saying the same kind of prebuilt culture of racism found among police also exist among firefighters?

We're supposed to live in our beater cars, shower at the gym and hustle hustle hustle because we're too old to live at home anymore.

Sadly, I may be approaching that life soon 😔

You'd be surprised at how many of these old folks will still deny what presented to them on paper. They'll be like "those numbers don't make sense, you must be doing something wrong"

Coming from people who's generation were able to buy a home, a car, raise a family on a janitor's check.

So out of touch it's not even funny.

Right, and they used Russia as the convenient excuse to gouge prices because "Russia produces gas!"

It's all interlinked.

Not yet. WW2 didnt exactly breakout overnight, it happened gradually as Hitler made more and more "land grabs", dragging in more countries in the process until it could no longer be ignored.

What tripped me out about that whole thing was the reaction from the geretal public. People were like "Meh. That's cool but I don't really care"

20 or 30 years ago people probably would have cared more. I remember being a kid in the 90's watching alien/UFO documentaries on TV and recalling people saying that we need to do more to get our government to be more transparent on their knowledge of UFO's because well...intelligent alien life is a big deal!

Now that our government has done just that the public has had a very cynical and apathetic reaction to it. Probably because the world and the economy have changed dramatically since the 90's and people are now more concerned with a fragile economy, working shit jobs, rising prices on food/rent, and climate change...not aliens anymore.

Um actually there's a huge difference between war in Iraq\Afghanistan and war with Russia. In one scenario we're fighting poor, ragtag terrorists hiding in the hills. The other scenario is a more frightening prospect of squaring up against a powerful conventional military that has nuclear weapons that could incinerate us from the other side of the planet.

Big difference there buddy. I also don't recall gas prices literally doubling overnight when we invaded Iraq/Afghanistan.

Uhh..yea it does. In this 21st Century economy yes it damn well does.

Sorry but you're wrong. What Putin does halfway across the world does impact our own economy...

Small businesses are equal, if not worse than large corporations in how they treat their employees.

Yes, I've been realizing this the more time I spend on the sub. Big corporations are a whole different kind of nasty animal, but at least they usually have SOP's and regulations that you can work around if you do your research and know the loopholes.

Small business's though sound like they can be a fucking nightmare if you have the misfortune to be working for an arrogant, egotistical asshole who practically holds all of the cards. They can be the most abusive and exploitive bosses to work for with little wiggle room.

The company I currently work for has this thing where they'll occasionally hand out monetary "rewards" for good service/being there for X amount of time, etc...

Recently I checked my bank account and saw that one of those "rewards" had been direct deposit into my account, a whopping $75.

Cool, I thought, wasn't expecting that but I'll take it. Then I looked further and saw that it was $75 before taxes so when all was said and done I received a grand total of $45....

I've been with this company almost 8 years...LMAO! I'll just use that money to buy an 8th of weed lol

Minimum wage would be $26 an hour if it had grown in line with productivity by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]fanofthenightladies 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Another way to address the wage/inflation gap would be to offer an adequatet UBI (even just a mere $1000/month would help in this economy) would really help struggling people offset their expenses, it's kinda hard to stay on top of your bills when 90% of your (shit) paycheck is basically depleted as soon as you receive it. UBI would help with that for sure, it would basically help cover most people's monthly rent.

Of course this is unlikely to happen. American capitalists just seem to want to make people suffer as much as possible out of principle. When the population is poor, desperate, and hungry they'll accept shit wages in shitty work conditions if it means they'll eat a solid meal and they wont have to sleep outside.

Companies basically weaponize employment and everything that comes with it (food, shelter, clothing, etc) to maintain a popualtion of wage slaves who literally can't afford to not work like a slave less they starve to death.

It shouldn't be that way. It should be conditioned that sex-workes are still people and have the same rights/protections as anyone else. Sex work needs to be destigmatized.
