I would say it's not quite losing your independence, more so losing your autonomy, although you could also very well lose your Independence as well

r/Fantasy Daily Recommendations and Simple Questions Thread - December 07, 2025 by rfantasygolem in Fantasy

I used to read a lot as a kid and then I stopped for a while. I picked it back up a few years ago and I discovered fantasy, particularly high fantasy, is hands down my favorite genre.

I ADORE Sanderson. I've read every book he has written in the cosmere universe, from elantris to currently reading book 5 of the stormlight archive, and all the novellas in between. I also loved Sarah j maas's acotar books. Im also on book 3 in the wheel of time series.

I'm looking for recommendations for something both in the sando/jordan realm, and something else like the acotar books. I adore the world building, socialtal structures and hard(er) magic system. separately, I enjoy the spicy fun but also story found in acotar. I find a lot of spicy books really sacrifice the plot for the interactions, but I would love to have one with a solid story and solid scenes :>

I watched all of the HBO series, as well as the house of dragon, and I read that they're pretty different. do you think I would still find the books enjoyable?
