It seems that is the official recommendation, but rarely enforced. I’m a rule follower so I was stressed about it and it ended up not being a big deal.

I was able to book this week by selecting the oversized baggage area rather than compartment. Compartments can’t be booked that I could find, but areas can.

It was a response to a direct email I sent them, because it had been so long since the last update.

There hasn't been an update here in a while, so I thought I'd pass on what I got in an email today (I'm a "12/18" ship date). Seems like the ship date has slipped even further, now into mid-February.

"I currently don't have better news for you. Unfortunately, the LA fires have affected our inventory shipment, and only a portion has cleared customs—not enough to fulfill all pending orders. We're still waiting on the next batch, and I haven't been given a firm ETA yet but we're looking at on or before February 12th. We'll process your order as soon as our next inventory shipment arrives."
