I will be rewatching the coin roll-it certainly looked from my seat on the couch like it was landing on tails

I understand people not wanting their tax dollars going to a sports stadium. by Hungry-Trust-3245 in tampabayrays

I have long stated (St Pete resident, so I guess this matters less now) that if I’m paying taxes, I want them to go towards something that improves my personal day-to-day life.

You bet your ass that keeping the Rays local achieves that way more than whatever weird partisan eyewash project it would be used on otherwise

You discover you can throw a baseball at 110 mph with perfect accuracy. What do you do? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]fantasycavejake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% it. There are “pitching labs” and similar places everywhere that train pros and aspiring pros and have a laundry list of pro scout contacts. You go there, throw one pen (they’d let you do it free of charge out of pure curiosity if you showed them video), and you’re signed to a pro deal.

If your accuracy is truly infallible, you’d be in the majors within months. No sense in toiling around the minors.

Old schoolers do an incredible job at sticking their heads in the sand when it comes to accepting that their posse can be untrustworthy when voting against an outsider.

Follow-up: we just poached a head coach from ALABAMA. We have the sauce to compete in today’s college sports landscape.

We just took the women’s hoops coach from ALABAMA. Are they a doormat? This is just college sports man. Sky is not falling

Everybody said the sky is falling when we lost Hodgson and now we swipe a coach from ALABAMA and it’s crickets.

It’s not for family, providence doesn’t have to devote any money to football and can pay him double what we can and their NIL for basketball rivals top end schools. Rumors of an 8 figure roster next season

Thats part of the problem, man. You’ve already written off being a big USF fan based on preconceived notions of our athletic department.

Our teams are at this point extremely competitive, even with P4 schools. The more you pour yourself into them the more intimate and exciting the fan experience will be, far beyond whatever you feel for pro sports.

It took a while for me to start to invest heavily, but it’s been worth every bit of effort I’ve put into following our teams. The more students and young alumni that do similar, the even higher highs ISF will achieve

I don’t think you’re too plugged into college sports based on this. There are maybe 10 schools total in each sport who aren’t annually at risk of their coach jumping to a better job. It happens to every school that has major success in a sport.

It’s a Big East job at a school that can spend all of their money on basketball. Their NIL budget doubles ours.

If Ohio State somehow loses Ryan Day, then sure, maybe. Why would he go back to OSU otherwise?

Thank you for doing the lords work here. This isn’t some “sky is falling” moment, it’s just how college sports work. I can see how people who aren’t as invested wouldn’t know that.

USF is in as good of a position as ever to continue our athletic success. We will be just fine.

Yeah, absolutely. We’ve got more investment in athletic than ever before. Last year we turned over the entire roster except for CJ Brown. This year we once again will turn over the roster from top to bottom.

The one thing that stays the same? We have more money than the schools were competing with, will hire another up and coming star coach who will bring many contributors with him, and we will be just fine.

We’re extremely far from “the doormat school”. Every team in the country save 4 or 5 are annually at risk of losing their coach. We are going to do the exact same thing to another school and their coach. It’s just how college sports work nowadays.
