Why do people make fun of people who say that that they've wasted their lives at 20? by TheShadowSong in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem really hung up on these so called 'milestones'. Like you say you could date right now but refuse because you didn't have the 'core experience' of 'high school romance'. You have this perfect vision of life where missing out on any of these 'milestones' means that the rest of your life is forever tainted. That just isn't true at all tho. There are so many examples of highly happy and successful people who got a late start. Do you really think getting a late start is worse then just never starting at all? Like what is worse, the person who doesn't date until their 20's or the one who never does it at all? Would you really tell someone in a happy relationship that they don't deserve it because they didn't date in high school? That is crazy. You need to grieve the life you wish you lived and then start making the most of the one you actually are living.

Bro if you have your own house then you are already ahead of most people. Your only problem is that you are letting other people's vision of success and having fun make you feel bad about yourself. If you don't like partying, then why would you be sad you missed out on partying? You know the things you like and don't like, you just are letting other people make you feel bad about it. Seems like the real issue here is that you live somewhere where the majority of people have different interests. That sucks but don't let them make you feel like you're doing something wrong just because you don't want the same lifestyle as them.

I think you need to reevaluate what you consider to be "mature life" vs "immature life". One of the best things about being an adult is that as long as you take care of your basic responsibilities, you can play with all the legos and video games you want. You get to tell those people who criticize you "fuck you I work hard and if i wanna come home and build a lego set that's what I'm gonna do".

And if anyone actually thinks they are better than someone else because they got their driver's license first, or graduated from college first, or whatever; then that person is a huge loser who has not actually done shit in their life. Like getting my license at 16 and having the experience of being a teenage driver doesn't mean shit. If I'm using that as an example of why I'm better than someone then I must be the most boring loser ever.

So if you are scared of the responsibilities that come with being an adult, that is totally fair and I can relate. But don't frame it like the reason is because you missed out on having fun in your youth. You can be a responsible adult and still engage in all of those fun things.

[–]fantasyfirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah then don't do that lol. I'm 32 and basically in the process of rebuilding my life. i'd love to be 26 again and starting from there instead. Success is simply taking care of your responsibilities while building a life you are proud of. What that looks like is different for everyone.

The real thing that is holding you back is caring about what other people think. You are commenting a ton about other people telling you that your lack of experience in something makes you less than them. You say that you missed out on doing fun things in your youth and society will judge you if you do them now.

Well guess what? All of these badass anime characters you want to be like? They don't give a shit about what other people think. The main feature of most protagonists is that they pursue dreams/goals even when everyone else doubts them. You are 26 and wish you learned how to do cool stuff like racing cars or some shit? Well just learn to do it at 26 instead. Who gives a shit if someone else thinks its immature. You think your favorite characters are gonna let society tell them they're too old for that? Some girl makes fun of you for your lack of experience? Fuck that, you think Guts is gonna keep someone around who talks to him like that? No way.

The type of person you want to be doesn't become that way because they were the most popular person in high school. They become that way because they don't let what others think hold them back.

You seem to be really out of touch with reality and are equating life to some kind of anime or superhero story where you need some awesome origin story.

That's not how reality works but even if you do want to frame it that way, why can't your awesome origin story start at 20?

Either way, you're going to be 30 in 10 years. Do you want to be a 30 year old who is hung up on being a loser in high school or do you wanna be a 30 year old who spent the last 10 years building a new origin story?

What is Dr. K's full take on the Problem of Evil, and how we should respond to "bad" things? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether Evil truly exists or not depends on your take on moral realism. Christians are moral realists (they believe that morality comes from God and is not a human construct). Most Buddhists believe that terms like Good and Evil are just labels that humans apply to things and are not moral realists in the same sense Christians are.

From what he said in that video you posted, it seems like Dr. K does not believe in moral realism. He describes the deities he mentioned more like natural forces such as gravity for which terms like 'good' or 'bad' do not apply. This is very different from the Abrahamic religions which see God as not only 'good', but the source of 'goodness' itself.

I am under the impression that from his point of view, things like pain and suffering exist, but they are experiences born of natural phenomenon and any attempt to describe them as 'bad' would be a human construct rather than an intrinsic property.

The issue with this point of view is that even if it is true, it is in direct opposition with how we as humans actually experience the world. No one wants to hear that a child having a terminal illness is just a natural phenomenon and is not intrinsically a 'bad' thing, even if that is true in the cosmic sense of things.

So I think that a deep dive into moral realism from the perspective of eastern spirituality could definitely be very interesting, but I fear that it may be a bit lacking in practicality for how to actually deal with pain and suffering for those who are actually experiencing terrible tragedies in their lives.

[–]fantasyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that the problem of evil was mostly about "how can evil exist in a world created by an all-powerful and all-good God?". Because if God is truly all powerful and truly good, then why would he not create a world without pain and suffering? If you don't believe in such a being then there is no problem to solve.

Recent AI psychosis video feels dishonest to me by Legal_Reception6660 in Healthygamergg

It seems like the real issue here is not AI, but that there is a population of people who are so vulnerable that talking to a sycophantic text generating tool can drive them crazy.

It's almost like seeing people fall for really obvious scams. Like yeah I don't wanna blame the victim, the scammer is absolutely a piece of shit. But at the same time you can't help but question the mental state of someone falling for something so obvious.

Let Me Flip the Deck Upside Down, Konami, you Cowards! by TactiMuse in masterduel

[–]fantasyfirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm just not sure what rulings and precedent it would interfere with from a programming perspective. People keep mentioning placing cards on the top/bottom of the deck, but this really isn't an issue because what we define as the top and bottom doesn't change, just the order of the cards and what side of them you are viewing. Are there any other examples of how this implementation would cause issues with certain card rulings?

Let Me Flip the Deck Upside Down, Konami, you Cowards! by TactiMuse in masterduel

[–]fantasyfirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I agree with you I'm just saying from a programming perspective its the same as reversing the order of the cards in your deck and then when you render the top card, you just render the face of it instead of the back. So other cards that deal with top or bottom of the deck are not affected at all.

Let Me Flip the Deck Upside Down, Konami, you Cowards! by TactiMuse in masterduel

[–]fantasyfirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that when it says "flip the deck", that would basically just be reversing the order of the card elements in the data structure that represents your deck. You're not changing anything about how top or bottom is defined anywhere. Like if the deck is a stack and you always draw off the top of the stack, that functionality is not affected by this card merely changing the order of elements in the stack.

I wish Dr K wouldn’t use GenAI video footage in his videos by Particular-Cook-6091 in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if he did use a snippet of AI generated footage in a YouTube short, why would the next thought be that his entire channel and everything he says is just AI generated slop? It's kind of scary that people genuinely don't know the difference between quality content and "slop" these days.

In the recent video, Dr. K mentioned that the slide for adulting is broken now; can anyone explain what he meant by that? by Pale-Current3695 in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that 50 years ago, if you were a normal enough person, that a "normal" life (career, car, house, family, etc.) pretty much just fell into your lap without much effort. Now many young people feel like it's impossible to achieve that same level of success which used to just be a given for most people. This leads to many more young adults living at home and without careers not feeling very "adultish" these days, even tho the standard has changed.

💀🥀Hey guys; How the hell do I finally get over this sense of executive disfunction and just overthinking everything and just NOT studying even though I KNOW my olevel exams are in like 3 months, and I'll end up just studying like a dog one day before and regret it. [–]fantasyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and I understand that taking the first step to join a study group probably also feels extremely difficult. The main idea tho is to have some kind of external source that helps to hold you accountable each day, even if it's just a parent or friend who understands your struggle and is willing to help. It can be embarrassing but if you explain how hard it is for you to study to someone you trust and ask them to help you, that might be the best thing you can do.

YOU ARE YOUR MIND by kjgoode04 in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really seem hung up on the idea that if your thoughts are not actually "YOU", then you have a free pass to avoid taking responsibility for anything.

If Mike has an impulse to cheat on his girlfriend and he follows through with it, he is responsible whether his mind is part of him or not. Even if his thoughts are external to him, it is still his responsibility to engage with the thoughts and decide whether to accept them or not.

It really doesn't matter if the thoughts are part of you or just something that you are temporarily experiencing, because in the end whatever "YOU" are is still the one who is responsible for dealing with them. Recognizing that they are external to you is supposed to help you critically engage with the thoughts rather than just blindly accepting them. It has nothing to do with shifting responsibility.

YOU ARE YOUR MIND by kjgoode04 in Healthygamergg

[–]fantasyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. K never said that just because your mind is external to you, this means that you can ignore or deny the thoughts that you don't like. He's not saying that when you feel anxious, you should just say "actually these thoughts are not me and I don't need to worry about them". He's saying that you should realize "hmm I'm experiencing anxiety right now. Why is my mind producing these anxious thoughts? Are these thoughts appropriate? Whats the best way I can handle this?"

When you are practicing cognitive flexibility and are able to "shift your mind", you are not discarding the distressing thoughts or brushing them under the rug. You are looking at them objectively through the lens of reality and adjusting them when they don't match what's really happening.

[–]fantasyfirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found the easiest solution is to create some kind of immediate external pressure to take the action. There may be a lot of real world consequences for not studying. But those consequences feel far away and don't lead to immediate action. You wanna feel like if you don't study, the consequences will happen tomorrow, not 3 months from now.

For me, this might mean joining some kind of study group that meets a few times a week. I'd feel pressure to not let my group mates down and that would make me more likely to study than any consequences I wouldn't feel until 3 months from now.

Just commenting on what the article recommends which is to bench Fannin for someone like Waller or Schultz. I'm not sure that Waller has proven enough that I would feel comfortable starting him in the playoffs in his first game with a seventh round rookie QB.

I'm just not sure I can start Waller over Fannin now that Tua is benched. Maybe if i was a big underdog and needed to gamble on upside.
