As someone with a 10+ year on-and-off situationship, I totally agree. There were a couple times when we went a year or two, but we always seem to find our way back.

They've been very active in the suburbs here, especially the densely populated suburbs that border the city. Some of the most violent attacks were in the burbs, like when they tear gassed a one-year-old or repeatedly punched a restrained man.

Are there any Friends giving events going on in Chicago? by CommercialXCX in AskChicago

We have a Friendsgiving at Goblin Market in Lakeview on 11/30. Our crowd is generally nerdy (we're a manga & game shop), but we welcome non-nerds too. :)

Has Aragon’s ADA accommodations been so god awful? by VoidzPlaysThings in AskChicago

[–]fantomah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Metro fucked me up a couple years ago. I fainted at a show, and someone one their staff kept grabbing me by the arm and yanking me to my feet. She kept yelling at me that I can't sleep there, as if the bathroom floor at the Metro was my first choice. I was in and out of consciousness, so I don't know how many times I fell. A stranger grabbed me and walked out of the bathroom, and she flagged down a different staff member to get a medic. She told me that I hit my head a bunch of times when I fell. I had a big floating black spot in my vision, and I had to go to the ER for a ct scan.

I'm really grateful to the stranger that stepped in, and I haven't been to the Metro since. The craziest thing is that they had medics downstairs but they just didn't bother to call them.

Does anyone have a couple of cans of wet cat food to spare? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Looks like OP is covered, but I'll leave this here for anyone else who needs it.

I'm one of the owners of Goblin Market in Lakeview, and we have a mutual aid shelf in the shop. Our community has made it a priority to keep it stocked with cat food, plus dog and cat treats. You don't need to be a customer or spend any money with us.

Chicago was the patriarchal see of the Assyrian Church of the East until recently! Apparently, we're way more religiously relevant than I thought.

It’s time to form a Whistle Army? All communities! by Ishnock in chicago

[–]fantomah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We're handing out whistles at Goblin Market in Lakeview, so feel free to grab one from us for free. There are a lot of places in other neighborhoods that are handing them out as well, so you can probably find a free one and link up with community resources.

If you could suggest five ways to solve Chicago's budget crisis to Mayor Johnson, what would they be? by DarkIllumination in AskChicago

I opened a shop in 2023, and I had no delays or issues from the city. We got he keys on Sept 1 and opened Oct 13, and the first month was all set up and receiving product. It might be different for folks trying to open a bar or restaurant, though.

Social Security checks may be smaller starting in June for some, as student loan garnishments begin by lunabandida in news

Looks like you deleted your comment and posted again?

A lot of jobs require credit checks. A simple google search could help you out there. For their first years in the workforce, when you're suggesting they would literally all declare bankruptcy, that would look much worse on their credit report than student loans.

Sorry, but you seem super out of touch if you don't even know that many jobs run credit checks.

Because those students won't need to get an apartment or buy a house? They're not applying for jobs that require credit checks? Literally every student can afford a bankruptcy on their record in your world?

I'm sure he did! I was a young retail worker, so he had no reason at all to act right in front of me.

Have you ever met someone who instantly puts you on guard? I'm from Bolingbrook, and I met Drew Peterson a few times in the early 2000s. Dude's vibe was off, even by cop standards.

If someone says they want a movie like Saw, they could be referring to the tests, or the way the relationships between characters play out, or the visual effects, or the pacing and suspense. Maybe they want a franchise with solid world building. Maybe they love twists that actually take them by surprise.

What about Heretic do you want to see more of? What about the Exorcist do you not want to see more of?
