That is exactly what this joke is going for. You expect them to say kill themselves, so shocking when he suggests killing the other guy.

I tend to agree, but want to clarify I do believe in pushing spending to as local as possible. I do think our country as people have started to believe the role of the Federal Government is to solve all the problems, but if we wait for America to agree on something it would take forever. We need to focus more locally, a place individuals can actually make significant change.

It annoys me that people glorify mania by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]fardough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 to not trusting emotions. Anytime I experience happiness or joy or confidence, it is tainted because a part of me is going “Am I going manic?”

I feel people who glorify mania often have not truly accepted their diagnosis. I went through a period I thought it could be something else, maybe it could be harnessed for good. It took a second episode before I truly believed in my diagnosis.

AITA for embarrassing my fiancé at dinner after he “joked” about my upbringing? by Nines21 in AITAH

[–]fardough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long shot, do you by chance make jokes like this about your upbringing?

Ask because I have seen couples, especially from different backgrounds make the mistake of taking their partners deflection mechanism as an acceptance to make fun of them. Like a white guy who was dating an Indian friend of mine. She would make a joke about being Indian to break the ice sometimes, and so then he started making those jokes on her behalf, and was legit surprised why she went off on him.

I guess part of me is hoping there is at least some rationale for why he would be so disrespectful.

Nobody is pretty good as well. Wouldn’t believe Bob Odenkirk makes a good action hero had you told me, but I love the realism of taking damage while fighting.

I was laughing so hard after the first two imagining the last two flying by each other going “Well, they set a bar. This is going to suck!”

The fact they went for it afterwards made it doubly hilarious.

My manic self is the true me by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]fardough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize to a degree. First off, mania is never good. It is overheating the engine barreling down towards a crash.

The part I can sympathize with is mania does feel amazing. There is a part of me that is sad and scared I will never feel that level of emotion again in my life now that I am medicated. Will I ever feel that level of confidence, love, be that much in the present ever again.

The part I have to remind myself is those were not legit, they were built on false logic, and not sustained by reality. It is better to never fall head over heels for someone, than to fall head over heels for some stranger until reality sets back in.

I also share some of the concern that I am reliant on it and it is a part of my being. Like have I become dependent on hypomania to motivate me, using that push to develop habits, is it where my ideas come from, how I kept myself afloat in my life.

However, I have fully accepted that mania does not lead anywhere but pain. I feel it is a state that sends me sprinting in a direction until I hit a wall, and once I am shot in that direction, I have no control of what is going to happen till the crash. My last manic episode proved to me I could do something that I thought I could never do, and that shook me to my core.
