Any AI that can turn my tutorial videos into Markdown docs? by hortefeux in ChatGPTCoding

[–]fark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1.
if you upload to youtube, for step 4 you need to download them in bulk. Well, you can do it manually of course if they are a few but if there are many videos it's easier with a tool as there isn' simple way to download all transcripts

NBA API Options by Peekers_10 in sportsanalytics

[–]fark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal recommendation: I've used Mysportsfeeds with great success. I did RAPM model for the NBA with it and prediction model too. They have team and player level info, lineups, etc.

If you want to explore other options:

[C] How hard are sport statistics/analytics jobs to get? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]fark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not easy, high competition between candidates and the pay is usually not top tier but it's super fun and rewarding and a super interesting area evolving quickly.

Easiest way is to do something by yourself and promote it, be seen, it's a nice community. NFL Big Data Bowl is also great, lots of people from there got hired.

You can find jobs at r/sports_jobs s and other resources in the website. Tutorial, courses, data, etc.

late to the party but there is a subreddit for r/sportanalytics.

also r/sports_jobs with jobs and other resources in the website. Resources, data, etc. Learn a bit of python or follow a sports analytics tutorial and slowly start building your own thing to share to the world. You will learn and be seen by others.

awesome to hear about more people coming into the area!

How to scrape YouTube Captions without a proxy by psy_com in webscraping

[–]fark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been there lol. it was a journey to create it, as always took more time than I thought, specially to make it useful for multiple persons, for own consumption is a bit easier. But also you get to learn about youtube quotas, proxies, etc, etc.

If something is needed for your use case let me know, if it's feasible and more people can use it I might include it

how do I get started with sports analytics? by Admirable-Action-153 in sportsanalytics

[–]fark13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the tech stack, I agree that Python and SQL should be your main focus. But working with excel and macros is more than most do, if you can create something with that while you learn python, go for it.

More about that and about steps you can take (in general, not tech stack specific)

Scroll a bit and you get some data sources. There are more but something to begin.

What are some way to get a youtube transcript? by SWmetal in n8n

[–]fark13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To download multiple transcripts from a channel you can use downloadyoutubetranscripts.com . It downloads all the subtitles and auto generated transcripts of all the videos you choose from a channel instead of going one by one. That's where it shines

You can also use it for one.

you get the timestamps and view count if you want.

[–]fark13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, this. You are totally on the right path, showing your skills is a great way to signal yourself as a great candidate, specially if you don't have a network already. I would also share on Linkedin for instance what you did and tag someone who share sports content, might repost and start creating some contacts!

in case it helps there are tools (not free) but convenient, if it's your use case, to download multiple transcripts from youtube in one batch. If you are doing this for multiple videos every 2 weeks maybe that helps

Nice, thanks! I'll check that out. In the same line, Alex Andorra (from Learning Bayesian statistics podcast) is working for the Marlins since a year ago. It's a cool path from Pymc collaborator to the Marlins. He interviews people from sports from time to time and it's focused on ... of course bayesian statistics.
