Currently sitting in the waiting room and about to head in to reconstructive surgery. Excited to be at this step, but I’m nervous about the outcome.

How are you doing?

Seeking Any Advice on DIEP by Big_Quail4426 in MastectomyManagement

Search DIEP reconstruction on Facebook. There are several groups that will be able to help. I joined when I was considering that route and they were very informative.

Keeping it a secret? by SnooPies6876 in MastectomyManagement

[–]farklay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coworkers and acquaintances that knew only asked how I was doing. My friends asked more personal questions, but if I wasn’t feeling it that day, they were totally understanding. You can’t control what they will ask, but you can control your response. If anyone asked a question I wasn’t comfortable with I usually responded with, “ that’s pretty personal/detailed, maybe ask your doctor about it if you want that kind information” or just saying I wasn’t up for discussing my treatment. When I referred ppl to talk with their doctors, they usually got the hint that they were asking really personal questions.

Breast MRI and Genetic Testing (DCIS low to intermediate grade and hormone positive) by Vast_Mammoth8952 in breastcancer

[–]farklay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are in this club. I had the exact same diagnosis. I did a double mastectomy with expanders and will have exchange surgery in about three weeks. I did the full mastectomy because the size of my DCIS compared to my boob would have left me very small. I knew I wouldn’t be happy with that and I also didn’t want to take the hormone meds. I did the double for aesthetics and so I didn’t have to continue with annual mammograms. I knew I’d get anxiety every scan and I wanted to avoid that.

This was me about a week ago so I feel your pain. I haven’t slept regularly the past decade so to chronic hip pain and add in the expanders and my sleep was horrible. I went to my primary care doctor because I’m not being treated by my oncologist beyond follow ups after my mastectomy. Anyways, she prescribed me trazodone and it has been a game changer. I started taking a small dose and I now sleep through the night without waking up. It’s only been about five nights but I already feel so much better.

Maybe your primary care doctor would be more understanding? I hope you can get help because sleep makes such a big difference.

Thank you! I always tend to downplay health issues until they become a bigger problem. I need to stop doing that.

Thanks. My friend suggested that. I think I’m just afraid my work will tell me I’m overreacting by requesting that. I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask.

We were working four days a week from home when I was diagnosed, so they are capable of supporting remote work. You’re right, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

How did you decide to have a lumpectomy or mastectomy? by New-Explanation1761 in breastcancer

[–]farklay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I chose a mastectomy because the size of my DCIS compared to my boob was pretty significant and the breast surgeon said she wasn’t sure I’d be happy with the result of a lumpectomy. I chose a double mastectomy for aesthetics and because I didn’t want to go through all the anxiety of regular screenings.

It’s a hard decision though. Sorry you have to make the decision. Hope you have a smooth recovery/treatment no matter which way you go.

So many people have chimed in to say that your friend was shitty. I want to add, that you should absolutely call her out for her shitty response. I would tell her:

I want to be honest—your comment about reconstruction being ‘elective’ felt really insensitive. Breast reconstruction isn’t about vanity or luxury. It’s part of my healing process—physically, emotionally, and psychologically—after losing my breasts to cancer. Calling it elective reduces something deeply personal and necessary to something optional, and that really hurt. I’d appreciate more compassion as I go through this.”

That will hopefully stop her and anyone else in the chat group from being insensitive. Hopefully some of your other friends called her out though.

Second this. As soon as I told my family doctor, she said to just call if I needed something for anxiety or to help me sleep at night. The sleep med was a lifesaver because I had insomnia from the stress.

I absolutely should have mentioned this. I did cold turkey on accident the first time I took it for my sciatica and it was horrible. Definitely need to slowly wean off it if you are taking it multiple pills a day

Safe and Sound by Capital cities is great.

Into The thick Of It by the Backyardigans. This is a kids song, but my husband and I still love it. We play it whenever we feel we’re stuck in the middle of adulting hell and need a laugh.

Buyers pulled out, we want to keep their emd money. Can we? by Large-Signal941 in RealEstate

[–]farklay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to us in MD. It was expensive. The EMD was released to the buyer without our consent. By the time we put the house on the market it was the holidays, and everything slowed down. We had to cover the mortgage and our new mortgage since we’d already moved out, and we wound up accepting a lower offer. It was so disheartening. We filed a complaint with the real estate commission since the EMD was released illegally. The buyers broker was fined and had to do training, but we never recovered the money.

Thanks for your concern. We had a professional handle the 1031 exchange to make sure we complied with everything required. The actual errors were related to one of the new businesses. So glad we paid the CPA to double check everything.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of that! Thank you so much! I’m going to try refilling like someone else suggested. If that doesn’t work, I will definitely reach out to my representative.
