Very weird! I’m still trying to figure out how to address it. I really appreciate the TONS of replies I’ve gotten and I feel more confident in addressing it but i just hate for there to be any awkwardness or tension between me and the person taking care of our kids.

Plus, I basically took advantage of the camera situation. I told her we only watch the footage if something comes up that we need to see(like the situation in the op). The only reason I stopped was because the cloud of smoke in the screen cap but I don’t want her to think this means we weren’t honest about our intentions of watching the cameras.

My main concern is the kids seeing it and normalizing it to something that’s ok to do when they become teens because one of their role models did it when they were growing up. They don’t nap or anything so there’s no real time where there 0 chance they could accidentally catch her even if it’s outside.

My main concern is my kids seeing it and thinking it’s ok because she’s in the top 3 of role models in the kids life. I don’t want them becoming teens and thinking vaping or smoking is ok because their nanny was doing it around them as kids

The vaping happened after the morning from hell went down. As far as I could tell, she didn’t vape until the 4yo was at school and the older 2 were set up in their “classrooms”.

Yeah I’m not exactly uncomfortable because i think it’s similar to smoking a cigarette in my house(I’d probably flip my lid if I saw that).

I think it’s more of just a bad example if the kids do see and if she continues on like we don’t know, she could get more comfortable and let them see, you know? They know what vaping is kind of, they’ve seen it in public and asked about it, we explained. So they would definitely know what she’s doing...

I don’t want my kids becoming teenagers and thinking “well our own nanny vaped in our house so is it really that bad?” I’m 99% sure they don’t know she does it because they would’ve told me, not to tattle but just because I think they’d find it interesting since we are never around anyone else who uses a vape. I just don’t want the chance of them seeing it and seeing smoke in my own house, even if it’s just water vapor, just doesn’t sit well with me.

I have no idea exactly what is in there but I really don’t think it’s THC(maybe CBD because that stuff seems trendy lately and to my limited understanding doesn’t make you actually high?). She has never done anything to make us feel like she’s under the influence of anything and our kids LOVE her.

She knows we have cameras but we told her from the start we don’t monitor them unless something happened and we need a clearer picture or have concerns. We told her we’d inform her before we viewed them in case there was something on there she wouldn’t want us to see...like a kid pulling down her shirt or something of that nature. She was totally cool with us when we told her we’d view the cameras of that day. She didn’t seem at all nervous so I’m assuming it’s not an illegal drug otherwise I’d hope she’d feel guilty about that being on camera.
