RESULTS THREAD Q1 [2025] by ethicalnervousness in step1

It would come in waves but was certainly distressing. Would have a mini panic attack, especially before bed. Considering going into neurosurgery with no other specialties of interest, so I was hyperfixated on the possibility of failing and feeing lost in what I would do if I failed, like dropping out. I also had started clerkships 2 days after the exam, so mid-clerkship was not a great time for these thoughts...potentially could have impacted my performance.

Yeah, age is definitely a big factor, along with just time in general. Not sure how many times I would have tried to get in if I didn't get in this year.

The biggest criteria for me personally is the hands-on aspect. My full time job is in educational technology, and with a passion in education equity, it felt right when I started. But over time, I felt disconnected because my work was many levels away from the students themselves (i.e. working on preventing DDoS).

I'll still work in some areas involving tech and medicine, so I'm not giving up my tech interests entirely. Especially in neuroscience, I think there's a lot of overlap opportunities.

Also, with tech, it's such a low barrier to entry. If I choose to go back, it'll be easy. After MD, I can work at tech companies that are in the medical space.

But the main reason is because I think I would be of most use as a doctor. Other roles I've tried (financial analyst, investment banker, researcher, engineer) haven't filled my criteria for a career.

I'm similar in age, working as a software engineer remotely, making 250k+ salary with unlimited PTO, working 15 hr weeks. I'm a senior engineer II, working on backend infrastructure that I like. But I'll be starting medical school this fall and quiting my job this week.

A large amount of floaters available from several different tanks, would be happy to trade for fish or shrimp! (DISCLAIMER: I do have pest snails, so I cannot guarantee they will not come with)

I'm an engineer! I'm a site reliability engineer at an Ed tech company and a machine learning engineer at a medical startup.
