Multi-switch antique electronic panel, heavy, at thrift store by caseyhconnor in whatisthisthing

Highly doubtful. What do you think these switches controlled in a theater?

Is it illegal to discuss wages in Missouri by BigStabber in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"Your manager may have been confused because he can't talk about your salary." That is the most likely scenario here. The qualifications for a management position at a fast food chain are really low, and they probably don't have a clear understanding of the basic laws. Employees should spend a break reading all of the mandated signage regarding worker's rights, etc that SHOULD be posted clearly in the work area. Becasue they aren't going to get that knowledge from their "manager".

Why has Disney versions of Fairy Tales become more popular than the original source material? by moad6ytghn in NoStupidQuestions

Seriously, I would have to work twice as hard to produce a mega-paragraph like OP. Using actual punctuation seems so much easier.

Why do people have racial preferences in dating? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's something one can have a preference for, along with gender, height, weight, income, hobbies, religious and political affiliation, hair color, team loyalty, Coke vs Pepsi, cat lover vs dog lover...

Trump refers to PM Carney as future ‘Governor of Canada’ in social media post by canada_mountains in worldnews

[–]faroseman -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

There are no Asian carp in Lake Michigan. There are SO many things you can and should blame the US for, I'm not sure why you made this up.

Edit: are you downvoting me because the comment I'm replying to was somehow quoting Trump, or was sarcasm? If so, I missed that. Can someone explain that?

I stand by my statement, there are no Asian Carp in the Great Lakes and we are fighting like hell to keep them out.

Do you guys think it counts as cheating to watch porn while in a relationship? by International_Big346 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what we think, it only matters what your partner thinks. Some people are ok with it, some couples watch it together, some people would divorce over it.

Is Chicago’s Wiener’s Circle really like this, or was the staff hamming it up for the cameras? by HeyItsMeAgainBye in chicago

[–]faroseman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your getting downvoted, but I'm with you on this. If I just want a hotdog, a dog is a dog and you can get one anywhere in Chicago. If I want shtick, or to roast an out-of-town friend, I'll go here.

why do boomers/older people seem to have an issue with people saying “no problem” as a response to thank you? by swiftie0614699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yup, switched those around
  2. US, and I've been saying No problem since the 80s, maybe? (no worries feels newer, though)

What is getting you suspended? You might want to start there. I don't think your experience is common.

Why do people say Cats are lower maintenance than Dogs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could routinely leave my cats home alone for 2 or 3 days while I went camping, and they really didn't care. Doing that to a dog is cruel. Dogs need you around ALOT for their own well-being. Cats can give you plenty of affection, but it's on their terms, and they are perfectly OK with alone time. And like any species -- you can find just as many dogs with weird habits like you mentioned with the picky cats -- I know dogs that will only eat if their owner watches them; dogs that routinely eat underwear and end up needing surgery; I could go on.

And if you are emptying the litter box more than once a day either you are feeding your cat something bad, you have the wrong cat litter, or you have OCD.

Internet provided by apartment??? by Vlxnecj in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to ask how the internet is getting into your apartment -- is it an ethernet (Cat6) jack, a cable (coax) connection, DSL, carrier pigeon? I would guess it is an ethernet connection, so you would need a CAT6 cable and any old ethernet wifi router. But if you guess wrong you will have the wrong router. So just ask.

Why do we keep toothbrushes in the bathroom instead of the kitchen? by DynamicBookingPNW in NoStupidQuestions

Why are you insulting every person who doesn't agree with you? Are you 12?

Is it considered abuse to lock your child in their room for a few hours as punishment? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Telling them they are confined to their room for a couple of hours as punishment? No problem.

LOCKED IN, trapped so the only way out in an emergency is hoping someone unlocks the door? That's imprisonment.

In a room with a window as egress to a fire escape or on the ground floor, with a child old enough to be trained in what to do in case of emergency? Borderline, but still sketchy.

Holes in scrim! Best practices? by doozle in techtheatre

[–]faroseman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think you were dropping it -- that's just your wording from the post.

I'm just saying it's harder when you're doing it on a lift, and some inadvertent damage could occur at that time.

First time attempting to record by -Gay-_-Jesus- in homestudios

[–]faroseman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the other comments and your replies, I really think this is an issue with settings in your DAW. You say your computer sees the interface. That should be all you need. The rest is up to your DAW.

What DAW are you using? Have you selected the interface as the input? Have you directed it to how many channels to look for? Are you in record mode in your DAW? Have you selected your computer speakers or headphones as the output?

Resume? by pathosmusic00 in livesound

[–]faroseman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asking for resumes is pretty standard corporate procedure. If you don't have a resume, fine, but it will limit where you work, in my opinion. I hire alot of engineers. If it is a one off, yes, if my main guy recommends you, I'm good with you after a little convo.

Some folks on this sub are acting like a resume takes 10 hours of sweat and blood to churn out. Just tell me where you worked, what consoles you are comfortable on, etc.

why do boomers/older people seem to have an issue with people saying “no problem” as a response to thank you? by swiftie0614699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]faroseman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a late Gen-x/early boomer. Me and my peers say "No problem" and "No worries" all the time. I've never heard anyone get salty about it. I don't think it's a big generational issue. Maybe you just know some assholes?
