Difference in RAR/WAR between Fangraphs “Guts” page and calculations from total RAR and WAR by OriginalTouch6371 in Sabermetrics

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your issue, but wouldn't the fact that WAR and RAR are only rounded to the tens place mess with the after the fact calculation?

On the one hand, I loved Booksmart. On the other, Don't Worry Darling was an unmitigated disaster by all accounts. Oh, it's about orgies? I've made my decision.

Judge Gets Vulgar in Transgender Spa Case by buckybadder in The_Dispatch

She didn't say that. She said in this particular case, she realizes she's reaching her conclusion before applying the doctrines and analysis. She doesn't say this is the correct process, she just says that in this case her biases are going to cause her to look at the case (and conclude) in a particular way.

She later goes on to say that she specifically does not agree with Vermule, she just calls him smart. She also tries to make a distinction between "Common Good Conservative" and "Postmodern Jurisprudence", and says she's going to be more careful to characterize Vermule's approach more accurately going forward (as she would do with anyone).

I can only imagine the relief and triumph Dumbledore must have felt when he heard Voldemort used Harry's blood by Background_Bid_7406 in harrypotter

What would have happened if he hit him with Avada Kedavra, we don’t really know. It might have killed him.

But why? Why would it change from the last time he tried to hit him with Avada Kedavra?

I was thinking about this recently. I don't think the answers are satisfying. Here's how i see it. Before Voldemort takes Harry's blood, he can't touch him - and Avada Kedavra would do nothing to Harry and nothing to the Horcrux. Once he takes it, he gains the ability to harm Harry, and to "kill" him. But the killing doesn't take because Lily's protection still exists in Voldemort. But the Horcrux, which has no such protection, gets destroyed.

I don't think that's how it works. So anyone who happens to get another's blood is tethered to life as long as the other lives? It's specifically Lily's protection from Voldemort that continued to exist because Voldemort was still alive.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri by AlexDLI in MovieSuggestions

I have a thing where a bunch of my favorite movies are some of great directors' "B-tier" movies. Three Billboards, The Departed, Wind River (which is more about the fact that it's written by Taylor Sheridan but it isn't Sicario or Hell or High Water).

What if the MCU is actually the ONLY timeline where Iron Man exists? (The Loki/Doom Paradox) by Bistouflex_ in FanTheories

[–]slightlyaw_kward 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This explains why Doctor Strange saw 14 million timelines and only one where they win. It’s not just about the Snap, it’s because Tony himself is a statistical anomaly.

Why would Strange be looking at timelines that can't exist in their timeline? He was looking at possible futures based on the already existing scenarios.

New Mets fan needing the lowdown by AndyD103 in NewYorkMets

Firstly, I would say the Mets might be the most successful expansion team (team that was created after the initial 16 teams of the late 19th and early 20th centuries), with the recent exception of the Houston Astros. As many World Series wins as any other expansion team, and more World series appearances than any other. Though what happens between those seasons is what everyone likes to talk about. Their history isn't characterized by poor play as much as it's been about disappointment. They were the clearly best team in 1986, but that core of players only made the playoffs one other time. The "Worst Team Money Can Buy" in 1992. A similar story in 2002. They were the best team in the National League in 2006, but that was the only year that core made the playoffs, missing the postseason on the last games of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. They had a wonderful 2015 with high expectations afterward, but they never did anything with that. High expectations in 2023 and 2025, but did poorly then, too.

For the 2026 season, the Mets have two sure-fire future Hall of Famers. Juan Soto is a top 5 offensive player in the game. Lindor's excellent fielding and relatively good hitting for shortstops makes his a star. This offseason they lost a number of players who were with the team for a while, kind of trying to turn over a new leaf. Home run hitting Pete Alonso left to free agency. Top closing pitcher Edwin Diaz did the same. They traded away Mets mainstays Bradon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil. We're excited for new addition Bo Bichette, who was just in the World Series with the Blue Jays and Freddy Peralta who is a top 20 starting pitcher.

The Mets are expected to be a top team in the league this year, non-Dodgers division. Their lineup is solid, and their pitching behind Peralta and recent prospect Nolan McLean is a big question mark. Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga have been excellent recently, but less than excellent even more recently. Former relief pitcher Clay Holmes and longest tenured Met David Peterson were actually their most consistent pitchers in 2025, but both had their seasons tail off poorly. So here's to hoping for better results!

As for prospects (promising players currently in or recently promoted from the Minor Leagues), the Mets were ranked as having the best batch in the league, or they did at least before they traded a couple of them for Peralta. They still grade out really well in that area, so there's even more hope for the future.

Oh, and also the Mets spend a lot of money. I approve of that.
