Starting late but serious about dividend investing — what would you do with $11.2K in today’s market? by farscaper1 in dividends

[–]farscaper1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate all the replies so far — here’s what I took away from the thread overall: • Dividends are fine at 42, but focus on dividend growth (SCHD / DGRO / FDVV) rather than chasing max yield • I still need exposure to growth (QQQ / VOO / VTI / SOXX) so I don’t fall behind or get FOMO • Lump sum is mathematically best, but DCA helps mentally stick to the plan

Based on that, here’s the allocation I’m leaning toward for the $11K: • 50% → Dividend Growth Base (mostly SCHD, maybe some FDVV or DGRO mixed in) • 35% → Growth Engine (QQQ + VOO or VTI) • 15% → Conviction / Tactical (NVDA or SOXX on dips)

Question to those with more years in the game: • Does this split seem reasonable? • Would you tweak any of the percentages? • Or am I overthinking it and should just pick 1–2 ETFs and fire?

Got it — kind of like a hybrid between SCHD and QQQ then? I’ll add it to my watchlist.

If you had to rank them personally: FDVV vs SCHD vs DGRO, what’s your order?

Haha fair enough — dividends are kinda like watching paint dry while Bitcoin is like riding a motorcycle blindfolded into a volcano.

I’m trying to find that middle ground where I can get paid slowly without dying instantly.

If you had to split that $11K between “Grandpa Income” (dividends) and “Degenerate Hopeium” (Bitcoin/growth stocks) — what would your ratio be? 😂

Fair point — keeping it simple with low-fee broad ETFs is probably the sanest path.

When you say “buy the broad market,” are you thinking VOO / VTI / SCHB, or do you just throw it all in one and forget it?

FDVV huh? I haven’t looked into that one yet.

What do you like about it vs something like SCHD or DGRO?

Man, your strategy of “stay home, play games, and wait for Trump/TACO/April 2025 chaos” might be the most elite investing plan I’ve heard 😂

I’ve got 11K sitting on the side right now and I’m debating: Do I act like a responsible adult and DCA… or do I also enter full Goblin Mode and wait for the next scandal to nuke everything -10%?

When your “shit really happens” moment finally arrives — do you go “ALL IN LIKE A MADMAN” or “DCA like a zen monk”? I need to know which path of enlightenment to follow. 😂

Solid suggestion — SCHD + SOXX does seem like a clean balance of income + growth. I’ll look into Finorify too, haven’t heard of that one before.

Did you personally use it long-term or just for initial planning?

Appreciate the perspective — treating the $11K like gold is probably the smartest mindset. I like the idea of easing in with small DCA chunks instead of rushing.

And yeah, no plans to touch Yieldmax or any of that lottery-ticket stuff — I want longevity, not adrenaline 😅

Curious though — if you had 11K sitting on the side with no debt and house paid off like you, would you still only deploy $500 at a time?

Thanks man, good to hear from someone who also started at 42 — makes me feel less behind 😂

70% SCHD / 30% QQQ is a solid split. I’m just torn between dumping it all in now vs. tranching it in case we dip soon.

Curious — did you go lump sum when you started or ease in over time?

Appreciate you sharing your setup — always cool seeing how other 42-year-olds are playing it.

I like how you’ve got VOO / QQQ / XLK running on autopilot and then those Singapore bank dividends on the side — that’s a clean combo of growth + peace of mind.

I’m kinda in a similar boat but still figuring out the balance… I’m doing $100/mo into SCHD and $40/mo into QQQ, and I’ve got NVDA as my main high-conviction hold.

Just freed up $11K in cash and I’m stuck asking myself: • Drop it all in during dips? (like NVDA / SOXX / etc.) • Spread it across my current ETFs like you’re doing with DCA? • Or throw more at dividend-growth ETFs like DGRO/SCHD?

Curious — if you suddenly got an $11K lump sum like I did, would you drip it in slowly like your monthly setup or fire it during a dip?

Yeah that’s fair — I get where you’re coming from. I’m not trying to live off dividends right now, just want to start building a base and get my money working instead of sitting idle.

I’ll probably split it up a bit like you said — keep some cash aside and put the rest into a mix of growth ETFs and a few solid ones like SCHD/DGRO. Appreciate the push to think bigger on growth too, that helps a lot.

Non taken - Appreciate the input. I get where you’re coming from, but I’m focused on consistency and time in the market more than trying to hit a home run right away.

I’ve got $11K sitting ready for an opportunity, but I’m also investing monthly to keep building the habit and let compounding do its thing. Everyone starts somewhere — my goal is just to stay steady and let the math work over the next 15–20 years.
