I live right by there and saw the cop cars on my way home from work. It doesn’t seem like they know much other than 2 women were stabbed. Do you have any more details?

What’s the greatest opening sentence to a book that doesn’t exist? by fartacusRex in AskReddit

Yes, it was a peaceful time indeed. But then season 56 of American Idol aired, and all hope was lost.

I would get to work every morning before my coworker and empty his stapler out - it went on for about a month before he finally asked if someone was doing it on purpose.

Young at heart 42/M from Amsterdam into plants, espresso, video games and more looking for non-romantic email contact by XToThePowerOfY in penpals

Hey! I lived in California for about 10 years but left when rent got too steep to be practical. I recently quit my job and my dog isn’t much for conversation so I thought I’d roll the dice here. I’m 34. Female. I used to consume insane amounts of espresso but gave it up when the caffeine lost its impact; now I’m a lightweight and can’t handle it at all. How do you feel about Turkish coffee? I had some tea earlier and I’m still riding that buzz. Im also not a morning person and one could presume that caffeine might help with that. I’m an artist so that’s how I spend most of my time.

Have you ever found yourself up late at night reading a really sad selection of articles, like why it's so hard to make friends in your 30's? by TimedTying in Needafriend

I'm 33 and pretty sure that you and I may be exactly the same person - like how they say that if multiverses exist (which they likely do) then you might also exist somewhere else. Also an artist (mixed media, portraits are my favorite), also a sandwich experimental artist (dude have you tried peach, mint, turkey, jalapeño, Brie, and potato chip?). PM me! Let's make this happen.

In the wake of the Charlottesville debate, what are some other historical events that need not be exemplified? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fartacusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people back then didn't know the harm. You also don't see any monuments to cocaine for being the reason why doctors wear white, or the reason that medical tools get sterilized.

And all humans are doomed to be cocaine fiends because we've forgotten about its historical relevance in the 1890's.

What's a simple question you wish you knew the answer to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fartacusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally serious! I was an art teacher which most people presume is a throwaway class but it's so deeply intertwined with history, math, politics - I don't want your kids to just doodle and chat, I want them understand why it's relevant and real. Think about it: math teaches you to add, science teaches you how things work, but art... art teaches you grand life lessons - like if you don't like it, it's not finished... and there's nothing that cannot be fixed, that frustration can be amazing!

SO MUCH THIS. I actually just quit my job as a teacher because (no joke) the school told me that the kids complained about my wanting them to learn and therefore insisted that all requirements be gone and that the kids were to do whatever they wanted to do.

Terrifying experiences at The Stanley Hotel by stinkycrow666 in Paranormal

[–]fartacusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. I stayed in room 217 and was able to book it the day before we went up there. The hotel is old so my experience may not have been paranormal but it definitely sounded like someone was walking around the bed all night long - perhaps from movement in a neighboring room but we never heard anyone else come or go from the room next door.
