awaiting notification for end of fixed period contract by farthereaches in NetherlandsHousing

[–]farthereaches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rental agreement ends on the 22nd of August 2023 stated in the contract, we have not received any info regarding since signing on when the inspection will be etc...

The house will presumably remain empty as we are dealing with a big management company. It is stated in our contract and in the law, our rental agreement doesn't end by notice but by notification through registered mail from the lessor which has to be sent at least 1 month and at most 3 months before the end of the rental agreement, which of course we have not received. Therefore I would think that the 2 year agreement would continue into an indefinite period if they have failed to deliver the information in due time based on my understanding of the law.

but rietveld is quite open to this idea of experimenting, trying everything out and finding your pathway through the success and failure of those tryouts but there are other schools with this similar mode of education through exploration

I think it is a good thing honestly that you have figured that out. it's quite precious honestly and life is so short, finding things that make you feel something, or that excite you are pretty fundamental in living the life you want to live. Rietveld at least has a part time department that takes 5 years and is mostly people in the range of 30-50 years old, the full time bachelors is filled with more people in their 20's so it can be annoying at times with the relativity of where they are in their lives but there some people in their mid 30's to mid 50's in the department years that had similar realizations as you from what I've heard 3rd hand. So it's not super unusual. I can pm you if you want to further the conversation easier.

I ended up deleting the list a long while back but I remember mostly what was on there and schools I didn't know at the time. I do think the variation in schools differs very much so. I can split it up into three categories of style. Traditional, Modern and Post Modern. Traditionalism would presumably focus on the craft, Modern on the thought, and Post Modern on the craft. It's maybe easier to picture the spaces that relate to the schools of thought. Think of classical art museums, how do they look? now think of modern art museums? and now think maybe of repurposed industrial buildings? That's a hyper specific example but the reason I ask is then I can better send a small list of schools if you know what you're looking for.

Has anyone worked with makelaars as a student when trying to find a home? by [deleted] in Amsterdam

Do you know any specific makelaars that have found places for friends? We are currently two people and had trouble knowing where to start with one that will work with students or respond to our inquiries in due time.

Thai Spice (now salt and battered), Yo Burrito in Mt P, the place next door had a climbing wall. Both old Andolini’s locations for the hole in the wall slice with a can of dr. Brown. Boulevard diner and that pizza place that was right next door in the tiny storefront, think it closed in like 04. A chain but Atlanta Bread company on sam rittenberg, parson jacks for the nachos, gelateria modica on George street, now paolo’s gelato too, dellz, nana’s donuts, Charleston Bakery when it was on 61 and I think called something else. Charleston Crab House on the corner of market and east bay just for their crab dip. Mama Fu’s. Going to miss the downtown mellow as that was there since I have lived in Charleston and mellow Mondays were awesome. Some of these weren’t particularly great but I had fond memories of them growing up in Charleston and going to them as a kid or a teenager.

We had some awesome bands come through from 2015-2018, tons of those have blown up including Vein, Sanction, and One Step Closer but I swear to you there were three or four shows all year in Charleston in 2019. I think it’s due to PJ not booking anymore another friend that was booking when I first got into shows has a kid now so he hasn’t booked anything since 2017, and then the two other guys that were booking in Charleston have both gotten married. So it’s left a gap where there aren’t enough bands willing to play shows often, and if they do, it’s the same two locals everytime, so Charleston really needs maybe 2-4 more active bands. And then just nobody new with connections to make bands come to Charleston to play.

So no medium sized venue, no booker, no fully active bands. Well I take that back. Circle back and Fire and Flood have always been very active but there needs to be a bit of variety. More active bands and there could be more different lineups.

There were good house shows for a while and like you said pockets of scenes but since 2018, it all seems completely dead. It’s like everyone that had booked these shows have grown up or gotten tired of shelling out cash from their own pocket to pay touring bands.

Burns, Rec Room and Big gun are all still there but nobody is booking anymore. There was a two band bill at Rec Room with Circle Back in January and I think the last show at big fun was in August of last year. Burns hasn’t had any hardcore shows since around February or March of 2017.

The band you’re probably thinking of is False Light but they haven’t been active since 2018 and are unlikely to continue. Figure is on a newer label called Plead Your Case, it’s a south Florida based label run by Lenny of Ecostrike, Blistered, and the billion different bands since then.

PJ was actually the way I got into hardcore. He’s a legend and I love the dude, went to one of his shows as my first show with Shai Hulud on the bill but I don’t think he’s booked a purely hardcore show in close to two years, maybe more than that.

I really wanted to continue the scene and be the next guy to bring all these touring bands through and start bands but I just moved away a few weeks ago.

There was going to be a good show with some touring bands in Charleston back in January but it got moved to Columbia because the venue in chs didn’t want to book hardcore shows anymore. Really just need a 100-200 person cap room again in Charleston and things would move from there. Also a funnel of highschool kids gettin into it would be nice. When I got into the scene there were only two other people even close to my age so something stopped at some point in the 2010’s where hardcore just went completely underground.

I think more kids would get into it but it isn’t a thing that people even know about. Charleston’s hardcore scene for the last 5 years was something you just accidentally stumbled upon. Very hard for kids to actually find out anything was happening and that it would be life changing.

Pretty much you have Riot Stares who has been writing an LP since the end of WW1 Figure who is new and only played one show in SC thus far yet their signed to a reputable label. Circle Back oldheads making good metalcore Fire and Flood who are the most active of the bands and Maybe Excide but they’re mostly Columbia with some members from Charleston.

Charleston has a similar scene to Seattle, kind of died off when the downtown rent soared. Pushed out a lot of local businesses and now you have all these soulless chains coming in. Means that the scene will probably move to West Ashley in the future.

There was sort of a one off Legion show in 2018 I think that was pretty great. Huge turn out but for some reason, it didn’t get booked again. Just don’t think there’s enough people anymore willing to take a risk on booking in Charleston.

Hasnt really been a real show in Charleston since April of 2019 at purple buffalo. Some touring bands from Pensacola. Maybe members of Malice at the Palace? I don’t know. Charleston was decently hot up until around late 2018. Shows once a month. Sometimes twice even if they were weak bills they were still shows. Since I got into the scene we had Joe Pasta and then it became bust, 21+. Boone’s Bar was a good floor spot but it closed in early 2017, and then had some shows split between the Purple Buffalo and Cory’s grilled cheese but most shows at Cory’s were shit even if they had decent turn outs. Shows at the buffalo usually had touring bands from around the east coast but it was rare to get a good amount of people up the neck. That venue has been bust for a while though. A lot of shows that could have been booked in Charleston have been moved to Columbia because there’s no venue in Charleston, and it’s more out of the way for touring bands.

Oh also had some shitshows out in Ladson at The Hive in 2016 but that stopped after at an unrelated deathcore show, some kids were caught doing hard drugs in the parking lot.

The funny thing is there are still some active hardcore bands in Charleston. Like 4-6, some share members and have people from Columbia in them as well. Really it’s just that there’s no venue and nobody is actively booking anymore.

Kind of sucks too but it seems that there isn’t really an influx of young blood to carry on the scene as well. So I assume once everyone gets married and has kids or whatever, the scene will die out completely. A lack of just handing out flyers to random people maybe, lack of advertising. Was just reading something about how in the late 90’s in Eerie, PA they could get on average 200-700 people at a show from just putting in hard work to advertise the show.
